Bramble to Train at Town
Saturday, 22nd Jun 2013 22:30

Former Blue Titus Bramble is set to spend time training at Playford Road during pre-season, we understand. Bramble, 31, was released by Sunderland at the end of the 2012/13 campaign and is currently looking for a new club.

A return to the Town ranks seems unlikely with Premier League clubs almost certainly eyeing the centre-half, who has played in the top flight ever since his time with the Blues.

In January, another former Blue, Kieron Dyer, similarly spent time training at Playford Road to keep himself fit following his release by QPR.

Bramble came through the Town academy, which he now sponsors, before making his senior debut in the 1998/99 season. The Ipswich-born defender was sold to Newcastle United, then managed by Sir Bobby Robson, for £4.5 million in the summer of 2002.

Meanwhile, former Blues winger Gary Roberts, 29, has joined Chesterfield on a three-year deal having been released from his contract at Swindon on Friday.

We don't need players who have spent 90% of their careers in the PL.

some comments on here are laughable.

Quality player, too good for us. Would love to see him playing for us next season.

He was prone to concentration lapses, but he remains a quality defender who has shown his commitment to our club. I doubt he will be playing for us next year though.

Say he is unlikely to drop down, but look at the likes of Wayne Bridge and Paul Konchesky. Bramble is hardly the hottest defensive prospect on the market. If we sign him it will be on merit, Mick and TC won't take him on unless he impresses, and isn't asking for a lot of money.

Far too good for us at the moment but remember John Wark in 91/92?

Anyone who wouldn't want to sign a player who has been a regular in the prem for 8 years really needs their head tested.

chislehurstblue its well more then 90%. All the games he played for us apart from 4 were in the premiership. But sadly feel your right about not him not coming here.

Sad coments, and state of affairs if we are using the term 'Too good for us' ...

Well i have been watching every bit of news on Sky, BBC and anything that talks of football; and have not seen any links to any clubs for him. He has no club and stranger things have happened and I would welcome him back to the fold. The pull of his home club may just be enough. COYB.

Listen chaps, he'd die for our club and us. He'd f*cking love to come back, even short-term. Sure, he's made mistakes in the past, but on the plus side, he's 31 and I can't see clubs queuing for a 31-yr old gaffe prone defender.

He could be the final piece. I know we're paying peanuts, but this is one player who could make a difference. One of our own. The right manager and one of our own back. I'd love to see him playing in our shirt again.

Vic - are you saying you'd swap Bramble for either Tommy or Chambers for a place in the starting line-up because that's what would happen if we signed a Premier League defender of Brambles stature. I'd argue that that would require head testing!!

Bramble isn't what the squad needs and this is exactly as the article states, a favour to help him get fit, nothing more!

Bramble is better than Smith and Chambers. How many PL games have Smith and Chambers played between them?

Can he play in Goal ???????? as we have only 1 goalkeeper !!!!!!

Titus loves our club, he has always been a sponsor of one of our academy teams, if MM likes the look of him in training and can agree terms he would be a good signing.

I admit that I wasn't always Bramble's biggest fan, but he is quality and has done a lot for the club.

On the other hand, as others have said, I'd be wary of splitting up the very effective Smith/Chambers partnership to introduce one individual star player.
