TWTD Banners Ready for Portman Road Bow
Friday, 21st Feb 2014 14:29

The two banners designed and paid for by TWTD readers have arrived and are ready to make their Portman Road debuts.

The idea for a banner emerged from TWTD forum discussions last summer with posters voting on ideas before the cash to pay for it was crowd sourced.

When more than £500 was donated, it meant there was enough money for two banners rather than the initially planned one with posters voting on the two final designs, including the identities of the players and managers included.

Gary Schumann led the project, while Dan Edwards was responsible for turning what was essentially a very large committee’s ideas into reality.

Gary and Dan told TWTD: “We just want to say thanks for everyone who chipped in, whatever the amount, and voted for all the various things. They really do look fantastic, even better than we hoped.”

Meanwhile, the club are after further ideas for banners which will also be placed around Portman Road.

They look great and I am looking forward to seeing these in action! I still think you should have included another badge on top left for the second banner.

@TractorCam

There was a new story earlier on explaining why we did not use that one, as someone already had made a similar banner, but it had not been hung at Portman Rd.

If there is still demand for it afterwards, I've still got the picture and we can get another banner!

@luke_38
Gary originally discussed with the club about getting them put up in the back of the South Stand. However we might have gone a little overboard with the sizes so might have to go somewhere else, such as being hung over some seats like you see at some grounds. Will try and keep people updated.

@rambohambo
If you would have offered your services and done 5 8mx3m banners with fire certification, you should have got in touch!

As it was, we didn't spend all the money. We are working out what to do with what is left over so watch this space.

Can I ask of all stands why the south stand was chosen? Over the more vocal North stand...
Also does anyone know what happened to that massive town shirt that used to come over the crowed from a few years back? Could be good to bring back for next year especially if like a lot of us expect we are going for a playoff push

........ now let's make a combined effort to ensure these words are absolutely true, with the Club owners required input - I remember the days when the statement could NEVER be contested.

@shoopdelang
Think it's down to the amount of people in the stand but you'd have to ask textbackup (Gary). He was the one who spoke with Mick Warden about it. I think it's subject to change at the moment and we'll try and get the best spot where they'll be seen my everybody. I think most people would prefer at least one to go in the North stand.

@itfchorry

Thanks very much :)

shoopdelang....
It was decided on here that as the majority of people who put money into the banners sit in the north stand, they wanted to be able to see them. also the club officals allocated that area as its where theres the most space. and also they don't necessarily need to be in the most vocal stand, the banners don't actually sing.

rambohambo....
well next time we'll put you incharge shall we? and you can take time out out day to find suppliers and sort the designs... no I didn't think so
