Williams Wants to Stay and Play
Wednesday, 26th Mar 2014 13:01

On-loan Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams has reiterated that he’d like to extend his spell with the Blues beyond Saturday’s home game against Nottingham Forest. The 20-year-old’s initial month at Portman Road is up after Forest’s visit.

Speaking in an interview in Saturday’s match programme, the Welsh international, who netted a superb first goal for the Blues in last night’s 2-1 victory over Derby with Palace boss Tony Pulis in the crowd, said he’s up for lengthening his stay in Suffolk.

“If everything is right for me, Ipswich and Crystal Palace then I don’t see why the loan can’t be extended,” he said.

“I will be having a chat with both managers to see what the prospects are of me extending the loan. We will see what happens when that comes around but I’d like to stay at Ipswich if everyone is happy for me to do so.”

Williams says he’s enjoying playing first-team football with the Blues: “I’d rather help Ipswich try and get into the play-offs, playing competitive games than playing U21 matches for Palace.

“My long-term future is there [Palace] and my dream is to play in the Premier League, but right now I’m getting games under my belt here at Ipswich, working under Mick McCarthy and most importantly, I’m enjoying myself here.”

Although 5pm on Thursday is the deadline for Football League clubs to register new emergency loans, existing deals such as Williams’s can be extended after that for up to a maximum of 93 days.

Please get it done Mick/Evans. Our whole season could depend on it! I don't think we've had a player with flair and skill like him since we had Gio on loan all them years ago. Quality little player.

It's all well and good saying 'get it done' but it's out of our hands. Palace totally control this and if I was Tony Pulis, who was there last night, I would want him for my struggling side after witnessing such a magnificent display. Our best hope is that Pulis still prefers strong, aerial players and so we might have a chance of keeping him. It was a delight to see someone wanting the ball to stop our back 4 lumping it forward.

No 1 priority to replace Williams when he does go with a similar player, hopefully a player we will own. What he brought to the game last night was immense and lifted the players around him.

I can imagine Pulis thinking: it's my duty to bring him back to Palace--if he comes off the bench once in the next two months and scores a goal like that, it could make the difference between relegation and staying up. So I doubt he'll stay, which is a crying shame for us.

Pulis wants him to stay at Town and get first team action. That's according to the deputy sports editor at the South London Press, who sits across the room from me and spoke to Pulis recently about Jonny. Apparently he doesn't think Jonny is a player suited to the scrap for Premier League survival, at least not right now. So there you go.

He reminds me of sixto peralta!!! What a wizard he was with the ball at his feet. A real cultured midfielder and as others have said was a real joy to watch last night. Shame he see's his long term future at palace, but cant blame him really being a youth product of theirs

Without him we have next to no chance of making the playoffs. As fantastic as these last two performances have been, Joniesta has been the catalyst.

He reminded me last night of Eric Gates and I would love to see him playing in the hole behind Murphy and possibly Ebanks Blake. Pity we haven't got Thijson, Wark and Muhren to support them!

He has been an absolute breath of fresh air and has lit up the season for us.
Irrespective of whether or not we get promotion to the promised land, Jonny Williams' efforts in such a short space of time will be remembered for a long time .

Well done Jonny for putting smiles on our faces.

I think we need 4, possibly 5 wins from our last 8 games to really give us a great shout at making the top 6. With Joniesta in our team, we have an excellent chance at that. Whether it's that killer pass, bit of skill or the ability to bang one in from 25 yards - He really could make the difference.

Imagine how good it would have been to see him and Didsy link up!

If we were to go up(big if) and palace were to go down. 1) do you think ME would dip into his pocket for the guy that will have got us there and 2) do you think he would leave Palace? If it was to play premier league football.

Ipswich 121: In answer to your questions - "yes" and "yes." But, as you say, it's a [very] big "if."

Got to say he certainly looks like the player that weve been missing for years and he Scores from further than 6 yards!!!!!

A player like Jonny Williams is an absolute necessary requirement for Ipswich.
The treatment he got from the Derby players just shows how much they feared him.
Time after time they clogged him, he should have received more protection from that man who was called a referee.
A small man with a great stature, and the heart of a lion.
Thank you for giving me and the team such a boost, I really thought our season was finished.
I really hope Wordsworth keeps his place for Saturday, if he has the legs left after being passed over and the back injury, he seemed to give us a different approach, far more enterprising than Skuse imo.

I can't understand all the criticism of the referee? Particularly in the second half, we witnessed a real blood and guts football match and the referee played his part! He even presided over a proper drop ball where two players were able to contest it instead of the now excepted namby pamby pass to the oppositions goalkeeper! Both Mick McCarthy and Mick Mils said as much on radio Suffolk post match and I enjoyed watching a throw back to the good old days!
