Pulis Will Make Williams Decision Today
Monday, 31st Mar 2014 09:00

Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis says he will decide today whether to extend Jonny Williams’s loan at Portman Road. The 20-year-old Wales international’s initial month with the Blues ends today.

Pulis, whose side beat Chelsea 1-0 on Saturday, says the fitness of strikers Marouane Chamakh and Dwight Gayle, who have been out with hamstring and ankle problems respectively, will come into his thinking.

“I'll speak to Mick [McCarthy]. Cham and Gayley might be fit for this weekend,” he told the South London Press.

"If they weren't fit it might've been that I called Jonny back. He needs to play some football. I'll be looking at the situation today and then take a view today."

That appears to suggest that the Eagles boss will extend Williams's loan if Chamakh and Gayle are fit. He would then be able to cut short the midfielder's spell at a later date if he was required at Selhurst Park with a 24-hour recall provision available after the first 28 days of emergency loan deals.

Pulis was at Portman Road on Tuesday to see Williams - who has made four starts and two sub appearances for the Blues - score in Town's 2-1 victory over Derby.

Speaking on Saturday, Blues boss McCarthy was less than confident that Williams would remain at Portman Road.

Meanwhile, Town's U21s are in action against Bristol City at Ashton Gate this afternoon (KO 2pm).

Like every Ipswich fan, I hope he stays. He is the best player I have seen in an Ipswich shirt for some time.
Keeping optimistic. You never know.

I think we have a pretty good chance that he will see out the remainder of the season with us.

I said before Saturdays game if palace won Williams would stay,in hindsight Saturday i didn't no they were playing Chelsea but they won so Il stick with him staying but in sure there will be a 24 hour recall

Pulis is in a difficult decision, I suspect having him back at Palace at least gives him options, but he's certainly flourishing with us at the moment, so perhaps that's best for the player?

Difficult one. I hope he stays though of course.

If he stays, we'll owe Pulis big time!

I think this is a bit of a show to perhaps get a bit more of a loan/extension fee from us. From Pulis's point of view there's no harm in extending it with a 24 hour recall clause. It keeps Williams match fit so if they do need him he'll be ready to play. No point him calling him back to sit him on the bench at Palace (if not intending to play him straight away).

@mow_the_lawn I think we are talking about the same loan deal, it's not extending it as such, it's not recalling him. As of today CP have the option to recall him at 24h notice is all.

If the loan is extended I implore all ipswich fans to make leaving this club the hardest thing the boy has ever done, lets get behind him and show that he i really loved here !

Think Pullis means let the bidding begin highest bidder get the player (well that's us out of the running)
We might be lucky for once fingers crossed

Like PJewellisaGod comment, completely agree! Jonny is a quality player and before CP's win at the weekend, I would have thought that Pulis would be a mug not too take him back! Hopefully this will give us the opportunity to keep him, allowing the team to stay positive. If nothing happens this year we can all only hope that the same effort and passion is injected into next years campaign. COYB

I think the fact that Palace already has Tom Ince in their squad (unused sub against Chelsea) might be In our favour.

Quote from my Palace friend (season ticket holder ) Saturday night . You can keep Johnny Williams , he wont get in our team anyway , hope he is right and not just the Chelsea result talking

Maybe I'm just the incurable optimist, but those comments from TP sound very positive to me.

'He needs to play some football.' speaks volumes. TP could solve that problem in a heartbeat if he wanted to put Johnny in the CP line up.

I'll stick my neck out and speculate 'he'll stay to the end of the season'

@brendenward35 I don't think any other clubs can enter the running to get him on loan now that the deadline has passed. It's either extend his loan with us or go back to Palace

I didn't expect to see him in a Town shirt again after Saturday. When he came over to the North at the end to applaud the fans who were singing "we want you to stay" it seemed like a thank you and goodbye.

However these comments have given me some hope! - would love to see him here until the end of the season. keep everything crossed!

Why not take it match by match? If Pulis's other players are OK for Saturday then let Williams stay another week. And we'll have this discussion again next Monday...
