Ambrose Signs New Deal as Veseli Departs and Marriott Rejoins Woking
Tuesday, 6th Jan 2015 17:44

Midfielder Darren Ambrose has signed a new deal until the end of the season, while Port Vale-bound defender Freddie Veseli has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent and striker Jack Marriott has rejoined Vanarama Conference side Woking on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Ambrose rejoined the Blues for a third spell on a short-term contract until January 10th in September and scored his first Town goal since 2003 in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Southampton in the third round of the FA Cup.

After the game the 30-year-old said that he’s enjoying football again after a frustrating couple of years with Birmingham where he rarely played before moving to Greek side Apollon Smyrni on loan in January.

“It's been a difficult few years, not playing. But I've got the love back now, playing with this team and this manager. It's changed my opinion of football once again and now I love it again.”

Veseli is expected to join Port Vale where he has been on loan on a permanent basis. Talks between Vale and the Blues regarding the 22-year-old, whose contract was due to end in the summer, had been ongoing since before Christmas.

The former Swiss U21 international joined the Blues after a trial in the summer of 2013 after his release by Manchester United, having previously been with Manchester City’s youth set-up.

The right-back or centre-half made only one appearance for Town, last season’s Capital One Cup exit at Stevenage. He spent time on loan at Bury during 2013/14 and joined Vale in the summer with manager Mick McCarthy having said he had no future at Portman Road.

Striker Marriott ended his third loan spell with the Cards by netting in their 1-1 New Year’s Day draw with Eastleigh. Overall, the 20-year-old scored five times in 15 starts and five sub appearances during his latest spell at the Kingfield Stadium.

Speaking just before Christmas, McCarthy said Marriott, whose contract is up in the summer, would benefit from another spell out on loan: “Jack hadn’t been playing regularly at Woking, he’s not had the same degree of success [as he did last season] in terms of scoring goals.

“He needs to get that, he needs to play somewhere regularly and get some goals before he even thinks about getting in my team.”

Feel like we need a back-up striker alongside Sammon to support Murphy and McGoldrick.

Hopefully MM can get a loan in this transfer window.

Good news, Ambrose is a bit of wild card and will never be the player he was, however I firmly believe he is just the kind of squad player we need to sustain a challenge. I agree with MaySixth about another back up striker - Sammon is here until season, but not the answer - I would love to see Noel Hunt back - and I am sure Mick does too, so over to Leeds.

Maysixth. I,ll bet MM has a list of strikers at the ready to get in on loan should Murph or Didze get injured. Ithink we proved at Soton that were are fairly well covered everywhere else. It,s getting really interesting now. C,mon Tow en.

Disappointed about veseli, thought he looked very handy in pre-season. Pleased about Ambrose though, excellent squad player to have.

Veseli did play well in the pre season game against west ham. Was Played in the midfield holding role and looked tidy on the ball. Mick obv saw enough in him to sign him after a trial, but guess he just hasn't kicked on. hopefully Banjer and Henshall dont go the same way

Good news about Ambrose, shame about Veseli, but sadly hasn't made the grade. I hope Marriott continues to progress, but this time loan has not been so successful. Wouldn't want him to go the same way as some of our previous youngsters; show promise, but never quite make it and end up playing for a conference side or lower on a permanent basis.

Marriott is out of the door in the summer.

To still be playing conference football at this stage and a contract up in a few months to me indicates MM doesn't rate him.

great to see Ambrose signing till end of season.
He is a man on a mission by the sounds of it. He can play in midfield, wide or behind striker. Would suit 4-4-2, 4-5-1 or 4-3-3.

We do need an extra option up front but if Murphs or Didz did get injured we still have option to play 4-3-3 with the fit striker in the middle of the three with Anderson/Hunt/Stewart/Ambrose able to play wide positions.
I thinks its likely Noel Hunt will come back :)

Think we need to bring in a striker of Chris Wood's standard as back up to Murphy & McGoldrick cos if either of them gets injured we will struggle...Sammon is nowhere near good enough.

People need to stop banging on about Marriott, let's face it he is another Ronan Murray - you only need to take a look at Bish to know he hasn't got it at this level - otherwise he would be coming on for 10mins here & there with the first team now. It's likely MM has made up his mind.

Interested to see if Pardew will want to keep/loan Glenn Murray as I think he would be a good fit for us if he is surplus to requirements at Crystal Palace.

Well observed, suffolkpunchdrunk, Murray would be a good fit, but I fear that Pardew values him too.

Shouldn't write off Bajner as striker cover. He looked decent pre-season, & it's just taken him longer to adjust. He may yet turn out to be a good signing. A fit and motivated Ambrose adds quality & much needed goals to midfield. It's all looking good for the 2nd half of the season.

If Murray< Wood or players of that ilk went on loan, they would want to play and they're not going to dislodge Murphy or Didz. My guess is that MM has an emergency loan in mind if either get injured or suspended for more than 1 game. That's available until March. Admitted after then would be a problem

Great news about Ambrose, think he may well have a vital part to play in second half of season.

See Derby and Cardiff are rumoured to have approached Chesterfield about availability of Doyle-----come on Mick this is exactly the type of player we need and want.

Where we are now we need to be getting better players in than Noel Hunt and Chris Wood to get us over the line.

Great to see that aunty Beeb has actually acknowledged our existence and will be showing next weeks replay live-----fantastic news, 2 live games on TV in 5 days----lets get FPR rocking and show the world what we are about---sleepy Suffolk---NO!!

Once again totally agree with MMs decisions. Veseli in my eyes was never going to be good enough and Marriott has just not moved on from his early promise. Agree with earlier post that he will probably be gone at the end of the season. We do need cover for our strikers and although Bajner is improving slowly I do not see him as the answer in a crisis. Can't see Murray being allowed to leave Palace and Wood looks to be the best option at the moment as Doyle will cost in excess of £1m. Am sure Mick will get it right.
