Mings: Nothing to Fear in the Play-Offs
Friday, 24th Apr 2015 06:00

Town will have nothing to fear, regardless of their opponents if they qualify for the play-offs, insists Tyrone Mings.

With the exception of Norwich, they have taken points off all the sides still in the promotion race, even beating current leaders Watford, while they beat seventh-placed Brentford once and drew once.

Mings, 22, said: “I don’t think we fear anyone if we go into the play-offs. Okay, we probably didn’t play well in either of the games against Norwich but we still go into games thinking we can beat anyone and that with our tactics and our way of playing no one will want to play against us.

“When we do what we do best we can beat anyone and I think we have proved that in the Championship this season. There isn’t anyone we might meet in the play-offs that we wouldn’t be happy playing against.

“We haven’t been looking at the teams around us trying to work out who we might play if we can secure our place in the play-offs.

“With the top four it’s so tight that any of them could drop in or out. Maybe people will have in the back of their minds which opponents they would prefer to meet but as a team it’s not really of any importance who we might get if we are in there.”

Mings is also adamant that he will be no more nervous going into Saturday’s key home clash with Nottingham Forest, a game that could secure Town’s top six status, than any other fixture this season.

He added: “It’s just another game and we’ve got to go out and do what we’ve done for the previous 44. We’ll go out there full of confidence rather than nervous and know that where we are in the league is a reflection of how well we have done as a team.

“We have progressed on last season and the season before. It’s been a gradual incline and if we can get into the play-offs I think it will just sum up everything the manager has been looking to do, which is try and get us promoted.

“The crowd can have a massive impact. I read something the other day about sales being around 22,000 and it will have a big effect if everyone gets behind us, which I’m sure they will do.

“With Nottingham Forest not having much to play for, if we can get the crowd on our side, pin them back in the first five or 10 minutes, hopefully it will set us up for a bit of an easier game.”

Good luck for the match.
I can't see it being easy. We better not count our chickens, but confidence is a good thing!
At this stage I'll take a win by any means.

Let's play a bit of football and feed Freddie and Murph the bullets. Win and I think we're home and hosed.

Didn't we draw with Brentford at home?

gainsboroughblue - Yes, we did.

Points taken from other teams in the current top six (out of a possible 30):
Watford 6
Bournemouth 12
Middlesbrough 17
Norwich 18
Derby 14
Ipswich 12

So we've held our own, really, with only two teams doing much better and one notably worse.

Very interesting stats there, Guthrum, with Watford currently top despite having such a poor record against the rest of the top six.

It just goes to show that you don't need to win the big games in order to get promoted, as long as you're picking up points from the weaker teams week in week out.

There's every chance Bournemouth could finish third, missing out on automatic promotion and sending Howe and their fans into a spin. Likeable Eddie, the media's darling, is starting to unravel as this piece on the BBC website illustrates.

Let's wait for the bleating from the South coast at the prospect of two days less preparation time than everyone else after Monday's match.

I think Bournemouth will go up and I still think we will be playing Watford in the play offs of we secure 6th spot. What happens after that really is anyone's guess.

Nervous talk from nervous Eddie-----sounds like Mourinho with his conspiracy theories!

I would favour Middlesborough in play-offs----OK a long trip but they dont travel well and we just had a bad 45 up there when we could easily have been level at half-time.

LETS ROCK TOMORROW!!

I thought after last weeks games that it would be Boro, Id take that now, and I cannot see much changing in the order between now and next Sat!!!
A Friday night on Teeside, bring it on and I fancy us beating them over two legs. In fact any of the top three over two legs and save the budgies for the final, fingers crossed they dont get there tho!!

The annoying thing is that we have taken something, even just a point out of a possible 6, from all of those teams....except Narwich! We will ahve to pay them back for that in the Play-Off final then I guess!!! COYB's!!! Can't wait for 3pm tomorrow!!!
