Distraught Hyam’s Thoughts With Judge
Saturday, 9th Apr 2016 22:33

Town midfielder Luke Hyam says he was “distraught” after Brentford midfielder Alan Judge suffered a broken leg after he had tackled him in the early stages of the Bees’ 3-1 victory over the Blues at Portman Road.

An upset Hyam, who was booked for the challenge before being shown a second yellow card for a clash with Ryan Woods just before half-time, told the club website: “There was nothing malicious in the tackle and I hope Alan recovers quickly.

“I’ve been out injured for a year myself and the last thing I want to see is a fellow pro getting injured like that. I would never wish that on anyone.

“I feel distraught over it. It was distressing to see and definitely affected me. My head had gone.

“I know the Brentford lads were getting into me but I should never have reacted the way I did to get sent off, which was obviously disappointing on my part.

“My thoughts are with Alan though. I’d like to contact him in a day or so and just give him my best and say how sorry I am that he has got injured like that. I just hope he’s back playing as soon as possible.”

After the game, the 24-year-old joined his team-mates at the Player Awards Evening in the Sir Bobby Robson Suite.

Brentford confirmed that Judge, who had hoped to make the Republic of Ireland squad for this summer’s European Championships, had broken his leg in a statement: “During today's Sky Bet Championship game against Ipswich Town, Alan Judge sustained a fracture injury to his lower leg.

“The injury was assessed and immobilised locally and Alan has now been transferred to a London hospital where he will managed by the leading lower limb consultant in the country.

“The nature of his management and long-term prognosis cannot be speculated on at this time, however it should be stated that a full recovery is not in question.

“Alan and his family will receive our fullest support and further comment will be provided as we're able to over the coming days.”

I thought Hyam could have gone over to speak to Judge, but maybe he will do that later as Luke was clearly affected by it as anyone injuring another person like that would be. I was relieved to see a yellow card rather than red, but at that point I wanted McCarthy to make a substitution. Leaving Hyam on the pitch in a questionable mental state, on a yellow card, was asking for trouble. We already had a defensive midfielder in Skuse on the pitch. Perhaps Mick thought it would be detrimental to Luke to take him off as though to blame him or something, but in the end a poor decision to leave him on.

My best wishes to Alan Judge in recovering from his injury. It's horrible for him ahead of Euro 2016.

How MM has the audacity to claim he shouldn't been been booked is digraceful. It was such a poor poor attempt to win the ball. Hyam launched himself off the ground and into the tackle should have been a straight red.

Let's hope you learn Hyam from such an unnecessary tackle and awful result - and quickly too.

No excuse for such.

I don't wish to sound cold but after reading about it on here I was expecting the tackle to be a lot worse. I think it was a hard tackle but not a dirty or malicious one. Sometimes you just get unlucky and in this circumstance I think Judge did.

It was a bad tackle which we would have been upset about if done to one of our players.
Hyam has somewhat contradicted our poor manager who tried to justify leaving Hyam on the pitch . Everyone could see Hyam did not have the temperament or perhaps the intelligence to last 90 minutes - except McCarthy.

No one comes out of it well, but all roads lead back to McCarthy.
What an absymal manager.

McCARTHY OUT

Hyam should have been sent off for a malicious & intentional tackle in the 1st minute. I suspect the instructions from MM was to hit Judge hard early in the match to give him a scare. This is the sort of thing MM was known for when he played-a tough uncopromising defender (with minimal ability) who bullied people. Team selection v poor again, Berea who has been cosistently should have been dropped whilst Smith who has been the best defender is the one to go. Smacks of his fave players who all love him &think the sun shines out of his x. Bring back RK, PJ, anybody apart this &^$#!!

Hyam's one who should be released in the summer.

I like Hyam because he is a local boy and he cares about Ipswich Town in the same way we supporters do but I just wish he was a little less rash on the pitch. He's still a young lad so all is not lost but he needs a coach who can make the most of his all action style and get him to make the right decision.
Like others I suspect McCarthy has told him to whack Judge early on and Luke has taken him at his word but without any subtlety.
I hope Judge recovers soon and gets back to full fitness as soon as possible and Luke isn't destroyed by what has happened.

Some of you have obviously never even played the game from the inane comments on here. This is one of our own, a young lad who is obviously distraught at breaking another players leg. I'm sure he's pleased to read some of the stupid remarks on here. I don't know how some of you can even describe yourself as supporters as all you do is moan!!!! Ipswich always attracted great fans, loyal a nd friendly, you are helping to create a toxic atmosphere, which will neither help the club or the players. Take your frustrations out on the owner and lack of investment if you must, but in particular young Luke needs our support, not bile because we lost!

Seems like a genuine apology and clearly affected him. I like Hyam and is typical tough tackler, was a bad tackle and he knows it was. Lets all hope Judge recovers quickly and Luke does too!

Seen a lot worse tackles than that. Unlucky for Judge. MM should clearly have taken him off. But that would take half a brain.

Disgraceful challenge. Yes, there have been worse, but this was so unnecessary and there can be no condoning it. As if against an Ipswich player, I would expect the FA to review it and if necessary give Hyam an appropriate ban. I'm also bitterly disappointed with MM comments on the matter. It was a very aggressive tackle, which has seriously injured another player. I wouldn't have expected Mick to support it. Further, despite some others opinion, I didn't see Hyam go over and check on judge. He may have done initially, and can understand letting the medical folk do their thing, but Chambers and Skuse did go over mid treatment.

Finally I wish Judge a speedy recovery and hopefully back at PR next season.

Well I am afraid another example of mis managing a situation.MM should have hooked him It was a poor tackle - not malicious but as we know even mis timed tackles can cause injury
Feel for Judge a very good footballer - who would walk into champagne team
Also why did we even need 2 DMs on the pitch in a must win game when we have seen so many times it never works
More clueless tactics from a manager who really shows no real passion for job anymore

Some of you are talking as though he went into that tackle with the intention of hurting him. I dont think that for a second, was a very firm challenge in which very sadly another player has got injured. I really feel for Luke an honest ipswich town player and fan of the club. Lets just hope with the best medical care available judge makes a full and speedy recovery.

Current season now has to be written off, with the last three months certainly tainting it with the smell of failure.

All the bile against MM should stop - he has been severely constrained by a financial approach that surely will never attain promotion and , at times, when the one or two loaned gems are not available, avoiding defeat is the first priority.

Planning for next season, with the current philosophy jettisoned, will I hope begin from tomorrow. The first team squad needs real refreshing and, perhaps with an acknowledgement to the many constructive grumbles, players from the academy and elsewhere should be brought into balance a reliable defence with a desire to play attacking football the " Ipswich way".

Doing due diligence on the character of players can only give a team so much... If we want skilful players, able to drive the club forward, then perhaps Marcus Evans should release proper funds that reflect the football market place and/ or seek some additional investment to help him?

Finally, disappointment as fans, is something we all share at the moment, but a little more restraint in both the language and the bile would also create a more constructive and positive atmosphere on this site and would also be more true to the "Ipswich way"!

Should have been red, there was intent there,do not deny it,Hyam is that type of player who gives hes all but lacks quality and intelligence. This game further justified my reason for cancelling my season ticket.

football is a tough game but a physical game and sometimes regrettably players get injured. I heard Judges leg break and it was a sickening sound felt awful. But there was no intent there to hurt the bloke.

Watch these, these are tackles with intent to hurt. they hurt to even watch.
WARNING contains some nasty stuff including something really evil from Roy Keane.

And i can honestly say if it was the other way around i would feel no different!

Have just watched tackle and it was wreckless and the second yellow was stupid . Give him something to reflect on when he's playing for Colchester next year . Had potential but has never developed into a championship player . Another midfielder with poor distribution skills who can't score. Whoever is manager next year really needs to look at the central midfield as currently embarrassing as can't score can't run with the ball and can't pass and after today can't tackle properly!

It was a hard robust tackle made at speed and with judge unaware he didn't have time to set himself. Hyam won the ball, but caught him with the follow through. The only thing you could say was that he used excessive force in the challenge, however I do think 3 or 4 years ago he wouldn't have even got booked for it. When Douglas was sent off at Brum that was a worse tackle as he caught him half way up the guys leg and didn't get the ball. Hyam simply got booked because of the ferocity of it and Brentford's reaction. Wasn't a cowardly tackle like Elkstrand on Jonny Williams was it?!

Whether it was intentional or not, only Hyam knows. I hope not.

Hyam now needs to demonstrate to the manager that he can control his aggression (which we need) and take being wound up by the opposition before he plays again. I agree that MM should have subbed him. Many around me in the crowd were predicting the second booking.

MM out, change the team, change the team.MM changes the team,MM out,MM out.God give me strength! You don't do what people want, they moan, you do what people say,it doesn't work, they moan but the blame is always on MM.Is the local water supply containing an additive that makes people enjoy blaming and moaning? It's not MM's fault that people don't score when that's what they're paid to do,it's not MM's fault somebody get's himself, yes,,himself, sent off,Hyam is responsible. It's not MM's fault that the transfer fund was squandered by previous managers. But the football is hoofball, why can't we play like Barcelona?God give me more strength!

The second booking was as good as nailed on, so I think it was a mistake of Mick not to sub.

Amazed and disgusted that we have 'so called support' that obviously condone Hyam's challenge, and the horrific result of such.

DISGUSTED THIS MORNING TO BE ONE OF YOU - now tell me to go elsewhere - which will be yet ANOTHER indication of how the Support, and general attitude of our Club, has deteriorated over the years.

Don't underestimate the severity of what happened yesterday - and if you need proof check the replays.

My hope is once people get over the fact we not making play offs now and start getting behind the team for next season. That includes MM you would have to be insane you want him to leave can you really see another manager getting what he does out of our players plus if r went to villa prob take our best players.
