Bishop Plays an Hour in U23s Defeat at Liverpool
Sunday, 22nd Jan 2017 15:41

Midfielder Teddy Bishop played the first hour as Town’s U23s were beaten 3-0 by their Liverpool counterparts in a Premier League Cup tie at Tranmere’s Prenton Park this afternoon.

Paulo Alves put the Reds in front on 19, Rhian Brewster added the second in the 28th minute and Ben Woodburn completed the scoring nine minutes from time.

Bishop, 20, is on the way back from the ankle injury which he suffered in training which has kept him out of action since the Cardiff game on December 10th.

Liverpool U23s: Grabara, Randall, Gomez, Matip (Williams 60), Moreno (Whelan 60), Stewart, Alves, Woodburn, Wilson, Ojo, Brewster (Virtue 76). Unused: Kelleher, Masterson.

Town U23s: Crowe, Woolfenden, Fowler (c), Robinson, Webber, Blanchfield, McDonnell, Bishop (Nydam 60), Patterson, Morris, McKendry (Folami 65). Unused: Hayes, McGavin, Ndaba.

The good news is that he is back and playing.

Unfortunately, he has little chance of getting into the first team midfield as it is populated by Skuse, Douglas and the new fellow with the long name.

Great news he is on the way back, but suspect Mick will field three defence minded midfielders now. Keep it nice and tight. Good teams in the championship you see.

Twitter is full of rumours about MM having a meeting with Evans after the game yesterday and not travelling back on the team coach.
Anyone else heard this???

If anyone went to the game today, was Mick there and if so, did he leave with the players?

I just need to know where he is...

Is this a particularly young U 23 team from us does anyone know? 6- 0 seems a bit if a stuffing tbh.

Even if he wasn't on the coach it doesn't really mean anything at all. Huddersfield is in Yorkshire and Mick is from Yorkshire. Maybe he visited family whilst in the area.

Just saw the highlights of yesterday's game and we got in their box in the second half. Good effort that.

Swn98: you're forgetting that in those days we had the News of the Screws (Oops, I mean World), which performed a similar function.

6.0 ArnieM?

I read it as 3.0!

Good to see Bishop back. Hopefully he will get some game time with the first team soon.

... Apparently it's not unusual for MM to travel back separately from the team. Particularly if the game is in the midlands/Yorkshire. Also, not unusual for Evans to leave a game early. Who can blame him? Who would want to watch some of these cheap players under perform?! If I were Evans I'd blame the unambitious owner ...

MM remained up north and made his way to Liverpool to watch this u23 game. Nydam also stayed and played in the game (was on the bench yesterday).

Has anyone else heard of rumours that MM has banned Dyer from Playford Rd? Odd if true, baring in mind Dyer sponsors/coaches one of the academy teams.
I've also heard that the Lieston manager made some comments a few ago in an interview saying they were playing so well atm that they'd probably be able to turn Town over. Alledegdly Mick called him and told him to to expect any favours or loans ever again.

Phil, could you press him on these issues please?

Bishop returning isn't going to change our fortunes, and that's not a downer on him.. We are desperate for quality additions, not bit part players from previous clubs. Mentality of whole squad needs strengthening ASAP

Bright sides at the end of a long, depressing week: Bishop's nearly back (one of our own), and Diagouraga is definitely there to fill the shoes of our current out of form central midfielders (Douglas, Skuse).

Teddy who? Great player WHEN fit but never is! Bit negative but hey, haven't seen anything positive on here for ages so thought I'd chip in with a worthless comment. Maybe MM will get some cash to get that creative midfielder who stays fit?!COYB

Bluebell. Some pillock on another forum posted it as 6-0, I just took it as read as had no reason to dispute it. On reflection he is an utter title so maybe I'll ignore his posts in future!!

I have just watched the Huddersfield highlights of the game, but I am still waiting for the Town highlights to be compiled.

Hope Bish can get a run of fitness which will hopefully lead to his confidence & form returning.

He is still a very young man with great potential. It is a difficult time to be associated with ITFC at the moment for all of us but we need to get behind all the young players who hopefully will be the future.

That is assuming they get picked. COYB!

Teddy has been disappointing this season when he has started but these injuries he keeps getting is clearly not helping, just hope he doesn't go the way of Hyam.
