Huws Loving Life at Town
Monday, 13th Feb 2017 06:00

Loanee Emyr Huws says he’s loving life at Town having scored the Blues' winning goal during Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Aston Villa.

The 23-year-old, who took a pay cut to move to Portman Road for the rest of the season from parent club Cardiff City on deadline day, has made an excellent start to his time with the Blues, creating fellow Wales international Tom Lawrence’s opener on his debut as Town drew 2-2 with Reading last week and then scoring the goal which saw the Blues to their first win at Villa Park since 1994 on Saturday.

“I’m loving it, the boys are really good with me, I’ve settled in really quickly,” the Llanelli-born midfielder told Ipswich Player HD.

“I’m loving the place, the atmosphere’s really good and I’m looking forward to the next game.”

Regarding his 83rd minute goal, Huws, who is contracted to the Bluebirds until the summer of 2019, added: “I was just trying my hardest to get in the box and luckily Didz cut the ball back. It was a great cutback and I got on the end of it and it went in. I was buzzing.

“It’s in the back of my mind to try my best to get in the box as much as I can, I timed that one well and luckily it went in.”

Reflecting on the match and the result, he said: “It was a really good win, everyone’s buzzing. A good day at the office.

“I think we soaked up a lot of pressure at the start of the game and were maybe a little fortunate but we stood strong and we gradually got into the game.

“I thought we played well, we dug deep, defended well and fortunately we got the goal that we wanted and saw out the game well. Everyone’s really happy with the three points.

“Defenders, the keeper, everyone on the pitch put in a shift and to keep the clean sheet, especially coming to a place like this, is fantastic, a great performance.

“The boys who came on, Jordan Spence and Myles Kenlock, they did a brilliant job, that just shows how good the squad is.

“They defended well, credit to them, they helped us massively. Everyone put in a massive shift.”

Meanwhile, Town’s U23s are in Premier League Cup action against West Brom at the Hawthorns this evening with Tommy Smith and Luke Hyam both expected to feature (KO 7pm).

He and Diags on permanent deals in the summer please.

Keep playing this style of footy with forward thinking midfielders and I'm 100% Mick in.

Great .... what a difference having two combative and forward thinking midfielders has made. I have wanted this situation for ages and just hope that we can sign him and Toumani in the summer. The team is now looking much better and of course we have Jonny W waiting in the wings.

Lets not carried away here, .....1 shot on target, that went in, just the law of averages that were on his side for a change also changers than were forced on him. Really pleased we won as its important to stay up.

I really need him to leave at the end of the season would be actually good once 100% save for him to go than would be honourable of him.

Now I going to be honest ...... I will not buy a season ticket until his left, I haven't been to a game since boxing day ( that was worst game ever !) and for me to continue to have a fair view on things, I'm going to put my toe in the water and go to the Leeds game. Will I see more than one shot on target or even be entertained ....we will see !

I really hope we can sign both Huws and Diagouraga in the summer. My concern is both will impress so much that their clubs try to charge a fee for them and with that and their wages they will go elsewhere in the summer due to our budget, which is likely to be smaller still due to reduced season ticket sales. What a pity these were not permanent signings in January. Oh well, we can only ask for now that they do well, enjoy it here, give the team and fans a boost, and help us get the points to keep clear of relegation.

Hello66 - you really need Huws to leave at the end of the season? You're not going to buy a season ticket until he's gone back to Cardiff? From what I've seen of him, I think he'd be a very good addition permanently, so I disagree with you there...

I can only assume you're meaning Huws, and not McCarthy, seeing as this story was a positive one about Huws loving being here and makes absolutely no mention of MM at all...

Great addition to the team, will be interesting to see who MM selects when all the midfielders are fit and eligible..........

We love you too Huws!

This is someone we need to hang onto. Unfortunately, if he carries on playing well, his price will increase. Hopefully next season he will tell Warnock to stuff his contract where the sun doesn't shine as he didn't want him in the team.

We really need players like Huws who are passionate about playing for us. To actually accept less money is unusual in footballers in this day and age. Well done Huws.

Why can't people read Hello66's post properly?
There are three separate paragraphs:

1) about the game, great result etc
2) about MM leaving in the summer (not Hughes read it properly)
3) about hello66 not renewing his season ticket, fair comment

I think it's a great thread, and I agree with him so why down mark him.
Fickle or what!

Trueandbluesince82.

Some didn't. Doesn't mean all. Some were prepared to give them a chance. Maybe the ones that are saying sign him up are different people?

Just because one Town fan has an opinion, doesn't mean that is the only official opinion of all fans. I think the open debate on this forum highlights that.

Let's not get too carried away. I certainly like what I've seen so far about Huws and his attitude seems spot on. Instinct is to hope we sign him permanently, but he's only played 2 games, so let's see if he can show some (good) consistency, unlike a lot of our other players.

Hello66 - you obviously missed the English lessons at school. That post was scarcely intelligible!

1RWR...

Why can't people read Hello66's post properly?
They can - which is why he's being marked down I would imagine.

There are three separate paragraphs:

1) about the game, great result etc
Quite generous there, but ok, I'll grant you he mentions the game and at least does concede that he's really pleased we won.

2) about MM leaving in the summer (not Hughes read it properly)
I did read it properly, but as this is the 'News Comments' section of the site, and the News story that he's commenting on doesn't mention MM at all, so where is the relevance to that story to make any comment about MM leaving? I realised he was steering it to get a moan about Mick in, but on an otherwise positive story, just seemed a pointless unrelated dig, therefore made the point that he must've been talking about Huws...

3) about hello66 not renewing his season ticket, fair comment
Which is irrelevant in the context of commenting on this particular story.

I think it's a great thread, and I agree with him so why down mark him.
For the reasons above. These are News Comments, so paragraphs 2 and 3 would be more aligned to starting a thread on the Forum section of the site, or at the very least on stories where the points he's trying to make are actually related to the story, otherwise it's moaning for moaning's sake.
