Dozzell in England U20 Squad for Toulon Tournament
Tuesday, 16th May 2017 13:26

Midfielder Andre Dozzell has been named in the England U20 squad for the Toulon Tournament which starts later this month.

The young England party, which is made up of players from this season’s U18s, U19s and U20s squads, take on Angola at the Stade de Lattre, Aubagne on Monday 29th May, Cuba at the Stade d'Honneur, Salon de Provence on Thursday 1st June and Japan back at the Stade de Lattre, Aubagne on Sunday 4th June.

Fellow midfielder Tristan Nydam and striker Ben Morris, both 17, are on standby.

Dozzell, who signed a new contract running to the summer of 2020 when he turned 18 earlier this month, won nine caps with the U18s during 2016/17, having previously played for and skippered the U17s a year earlier.

England go to Toulon as champions, a U21s side led by Gareth Southgate having won last year’s competition.

England U20s: Ellery Balcombe (Brentford), Ryan Schofield (Huddersfield Town), Cameron Borthwick Jackson (Manchester United), Reece James (Chelsea), Ezri Konsa (Charlton Athletic), Japhet Tanganga (Tottenham Hotspur), Joshua Tymon (Hull City), Harvey Barnes (Leicester City), David Brooks (Sheffield United), Sadou Diallo (Manchester City), Andre Dozzell (Ipswich Town), Demetri Mitchell (Manchester United), Tariq Uwakwe (Chelsea), Ronaldo Vieira (Leeds United), Luke Bolton (Manchester City), Elliot Embleton (Sunderland), George Hirst (Sheffield Wednesday), Daniel Kemp (West Ham United), Martell Taylor-Crossdale (Chelsea), Ike Ugbo (Chelsea).

Hope he has a good tournament and that spurs him on to work hard at breaking into our first team on a more regular basis.
I still think he needs to undergo a bit of a Dalian Atkinsonesque transformation over the summer to add a bit of bulk to himself - or alternatively, go out on loan next season to come back more ready than he's really looked so far in his few appearances
Would be nice to see him do well at Toulon tho.

Good news for Andre. Obviously the manager of the England U20s thinks he is good enough. Let's hope he does well and Mick realises what a star we have in our academy.

As Hoppy says, he needs the summer to bulk up a bit and will hopefully be ready for some pre-season games and then get some game time from August.

Just needs a midfield around him that will look after him and let him play unlike the current one that just goes missing

Good enough to be selected for the England U20 squad, but not good enough to be a regular in our poor first team?

There's something wrong there and he's called Mick McCarthy

I guess that the Leeds United player's parents were hopeful that their son would make the grade.........not much to live up to, being named "Ronaldo Vieira"!

Good news for Andre, but is there really any point in having U18's, U19's, U20's in addition to U21s, if the objective is to produce better quality England international footballers?

Still wont change MM attitude and expect to see Andre being loaned to Div 1/2 for season.

I believe the headline is confusing because, whilst the Toulon tournament is going on, the U20 World Cup is taking place in South Korea. England's first game is against the hosts on 26th May so it would appear that Andre is in the England U20 B squad which is compiled of U19 & U18 players.

Its great to see him called up and good luck to the lad, but some people need a reality check.

Being in the squad for a 3 match tournament of p[layers of your own age is hardly the same as playing week in week out in the Championship against hardened professionals kicking lumps of sh!te out of you.

As an earlier poster said, he needs to bulk up a bit and get stronger or he will only up injured.
