Klug: Club Stronger When Everyone's Pulling Together
Wednesday, 11th Apr 2018 18:58

Caretaker-boss Bryan Klug, who is in charge for the final four games of the season, says Town is a better and stronger club if everyone is pulling in the same direction. The 57-year-old confirmed he isn’t interested in taking on the job on a permanent basis.

“I have been in and around this club since 1977 and I know it’s a fantastic club but it’s a much better place to be and much stronger if everyone is pulling together and the supporters have a massive part to play in that,” Klug, who has been working as the academy’s head of coaching and player development, told iFollow Ipswich.

“That is what I want to see and if the players here can get something out of the next few weeks and the young coaches that I will have with me [Gerard Nash and Chris Hogg] do the same, then I will look at that as a success."

Klug paid tribute to exiting boss Mick McCarthy: “Mick is a top drawer manager, without a doubt. I have worked with just about every manager here since Sir Bobby Robson and I have learnt as much off Mick as anyone.

“I’m not interested in doing the job at all though going forward. I am going to try and enjoy the experience but I’m already losing sleep over it!”

Klug says that while he'll look to give younger players their chance over the next few games, they'll not come into the side en masse.

“We’ve had a few players make debuts this year, Ben Folami, Ben Morris, people like that," he added.

"And I think any time we can get young players on the pitch I’ll be looking to do that, but you’ve also got an obligation to make sure you put your strongest players out on the pitch to start with.”

Shame that McCarthy was not an exciting manager, then perhaps he wouldn't be an exiting one ...

I don't think there's a supporter of our great club who wouldn't agree with you Bryan or back you 100% right now. This period to clear the air is just what we all need and you are the right man for this (brief) stint.

Hope our owner talks to Bryan about any new appointment rather than his so called football mates. He knows the Club and what we need. Great servant as always

Shame he doesn't want job but academy is his baby so I understand that.
With little or no money at the club the youngsters are our future.

Couldn't agree more. Great servant of the club, been here a long time and ITFC runs through his blood.
I have no problem with Investments in young talent and producing our own as long as they're played and Klug will certainly do that.
Would love for him to have the job permanently and would have the backing of all of the ITFC fans.
Appoint permanently ME. A true Ipswich man.

How do you appoint a manager that doesn't want the job?
And why would you want to take him from the excellent job he does in he academy?

Shame the press conference isn't being shown. Was looking forward to that.

I do fear for our future. I'd rather MM stayed with MM investing in the playing squad. I really hope that this time next year, I and a few other are not saying "I told you so". Our squad, bar a couple of exceptions are lower Chapionship or leagues one players.

And there it is everyone .... first thing Bryan does is acknowledge the part the supporters play and try and get everyone pulling together. It's a pity MM couldn't do that small thing ..

I can't imagine there is anyone connected with itfc who won't want to see Bryan do well in his month in charge and for once Evans has got this spot on - a proper Ipswich man who we can all get behind.

Everyone is behind Klug.........if he was to take the job wonder how long it would be before the fans turned on him if we were not in the top six......

Nobody turned on MM for mot being top 6, they turned due to the dire out of date football, the lack of goals or even shots, the selection of 8 or 9defenders at home, the negative attitude to bigging up every opposition, the clear arrogance of a man if anyone suggested he may have got something wrong (God forbid), his distinct lack of respect for supporters the clear selection of certain players whatever their performance was like. Certainly not about league position but some will only see what they want

Karlosfandangal ........ your first four words are spot on - the rest is rubbish, and uncalled for. That kind of attitude will not serve to unite support - which is what everyone should now be rallying for.

Wanting success for our Club is no crime - letting the demise continue most certainly is.

blueboy1981 added 21:44 - Apr 11
........ he doesn't want the job other than short term anyway - as already declared by himself.

blueboy1981 added 21:47 - Apr 11
........ it's the so called 'do gooders' and 'happy clappers' that will see the continuing downfall of this Club.

Get into your heads ...... McCARTHY HAS GONE. Worse part of it is - they call themselves 'real supporters'.

grinch added 21:55 - Apr 11
blueboy am sure you will turn on who ever is next not happy clappers just people who support the whole club throughout....lets see how long you give the next manager or will it just be a whinge about ME...you are part of the downfall of the club not others you make out are!!

Very strange this Bryan calls for unity and everyone pulling together and even in the comments people can't get on and get behind the club and each other, some just want to have a dig for the sake of having a dig

I for one am glad that you are here for the next 4 games
All many of us ask is for you to allow the players the freedom to express themselves especially going forward. Take away the fear of crossing the half way line.
Look at the way Folami played against Millwall, look how Cotter played against Barnsley, it is so refreshing to see and excites ALL supporters.
Let the defenders defend and attackers attack, and not be scared.
We have some very good players at the club if they are allowed to do what they are good at.
Please do not lose any sleep, embrace it and enjoy it
We do not for one minute expect to win every game, in fact I do not care if we do not win another game this season, as long as the team is sent out positively.
We are so tired of just trying to stop the opposition...
Your remit really is that simple !!!
