TWTD understands striker David McGoldrick will join Luke Hyam in leaving Portman Road this summer.

The Republic of Ireland international is out of contract and no new deal has been offered to him by Town.

McGoldrick, 30, had been widely expected to move on despite being widely viewed as the Blues’ best player with injuries having limited his involvement for much of his time at Portman Road.

This season, which started promisingly and in which he scored eight goals, ended in February when he suffered a groin injury.

Having signed from Nottingham Forest in January 2013, initially on loan but with the deal becoming a permanent switch the following summer, McGoldrick scored 45 goals in 126 starts and 33 sub appearances for the Blues.

In August 2014 Town owner Marcus Evans turned down what was understood to be a £7 million offer from Premier League Leicester for McGoldrick, who subsequently signed a new deal with the Blues making him the club’s highest-paid player.

With his family having moved back to the East Midlands a couple of years ago, Nottingham-born McGoldrick is likely to be looking for a new club closer to home ahead of 2018/19.

agravenor added 12:57 - May 8 Didz is a great player on his day but is just injured far too often. We can't continue to pay his wages for a few games a season. Not a surprise nor a great loss in my opinion considering he isn't available to play very often! Can't help but think we should have cashed in for him a couple years ago though...

BlueBlood90 added 13:00 - May 8 It's a real shame that he's been unable to keep fit for a full season here. We are undoubtedly a better team when he's fit and firing. However, with such a small budget as ours, we can't afford to be paying key players a high wage for just 10-15 games a season. Been some great memories with him and wish him all the best in the future.

Jordan27 added 13:05 - May 8 Good move for all concerned really. I do really like him and on his day is a class player but cannot afford to pay someone his wages for a player than cant stay fit! Hopefully money saved on wages can be spent on a few more players who we will get more games out of!

Garv added 13:07 - May 8 Brilliant on his day but injured far too often and paid too much I would imagine. I always found him a frustrating player to watch to be honest, especially in front of goal. Having said that, to his credit I was surprised to see that goal ratio which isn't bad.

Honestly think he was that good. I think he knows that too. Just a big had luck story of a player who never reached his true potential.

Has great natural talent but always seemed to take the wrong option when a pass would have been better than a shot. I found him frustrating to watch the last 2 seasons. Shame we didn't offload sooner. Still don't know his best position. Another best for player and club scenario.

IpswichToon added 13:36 - May 8 Since the great 'Murphy Year', McGoldrick hasn't really been great even when he was fit. I have a lot of respect for the guy and has been a great player for us. But lately he has had absolutely no pace, slowed down every attack, had far too many lose passes and would repeatedly shoot in situations he should be passing. He served our club well. But rightfully so, we need to look elsewhere rather than keep him on. Good luck to the lad.

PortmanTerrorist added 13:43 - May 8 Some great moments with Didz esp with Murphy to share the load, but does not fit in with current crop where we appear to be moving toward a more pacy approach as he really does slow the game down. Be interesting to see if Didz and Luke stay fit away from ITFC.....if they do it will raise even bigger questions as to what we were doing to these guys in training.
