Bialkowski to Be Town's Highest-Paid Player
Sunday, 15th Jul 2018 09:11

Bartosz Bialkowski’s new Blues contract is reportedly will reportedly make him the highest-paid player at the club.

As reported yesterday following the 2-0 friendly defeat at Braintree, manager Paul Hurst said the club were getting closer to persuading the 31-year-old Polish international to stay at Portman Road.

We understand the three-year deal with the usual option for a further season is very near to being finalised and that the new contract could even be signed as soon as tomorrow with Bialkowski due back at Portman Road following his post-World Cup break.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the deal is worth £20,000-a-week, which we understand to be an inflated figure, a wage they claim to be the highest in Town’s history.

Although certainly making Bialkowski the highest-paid member of the current squad - released striker David McGoldrick was previously the top earner with his deal understood to be worth a figure not too far off Bialkowski’s new terms - the likes of Matteo Sereni and Finidi George were paid more than £20,000-a-week back in the Blues’ Premier League days.

Town owner Marcus Evans has been forced to push the boat out to keep Bialkowski, who otherwise would have been out of contract next summer, in the wake of interest from Birmingham City, the Blues having rebuffed offers of £2.75 million and £3 million over the last fortnight.

Wages at the level of Bialkowski’s new Town deal will have been on offer at St Andrew’s, while the Blues have been anticipating further interest in the former Notts County and Southampton man from elsewhere.

The new deal is almost certainly a big leap on the contract which former manager Mick McCarthy prematurely announced had been agreed in January.

the best player should get the best pay, he should also be captain...

Well no one can really argue that Bart doesn't deserve it, has consistently been our best player for the last few seasons. His pay should reflect his importance to us. A good move by the club, but don't stop there we need a few more additions ME to strengthen our starting XI.

He was the difference between us playing in the Championship and league one. If we had droped the difference in gate receipts would greater than his increase in pay.
Worth every penny.

Although he deserves the pay, stories like this don't always help with squad harmony. Nothing like rubbing people's noses in it. Think that happened back in the prem days and 1st few season back in the championship. Hopefully Hurst will be able to keep everyone happy.

If we had another 10 players of Bart's calibrate we would be playing in the premier league next season. Therefore @1m a year on wages would seem about right. On the other hand without him league one is more probable than any chance of a top half championship finish.

@blue75 I couldn't agree more with you. If paul hurst has valued Waghorn at £7 million I'm sure that Wags would think deserving of this type of wage. We have Gerken who Mick always said was the same quality as Bart. Knudsen who has also just come back from a World Cup..

Well town fans can't have a go at ME for selling Webster as this is the only reason we can offer these wages. However it will be nowhere near what Prem clubs can offer him so fingers crossed one don't come in for him.
Now we need to offer Waghorn a new contract with the Webster money and hopefully some left over for a couple of new players

Well that's Ben Knights transfer fee gone then!

Would have thought Waghorn is one of the top earners at the club as it Chambers.

Good luck to Bart. Just need a decent back line in front of him and who knows!

Kept Town in the Championship and kept Dino, and his highly inflated reputation in a job.
Worth every penny and the other players know it,something to aspire to

and are best keeper ever, don`t say that lightly, come from the Paul Cooper era who performed at the top level for years, but Bart makes saves that no else can.
(Cooper was better at pens though)

Those that moan about ME not spending money on players need to think.
This deal will cost the club £5 Million that's why the club have to sell players .

Having said that the release of McGoldrick and what Bart was earning before means the money has been found so hopefully some of the Webster money is still there to spend.

Was Webster sold to help fund this deal and maybe a better deal for Waghorn to tie him down long term.

Mick was wrong...

He's been our player of the season 3 years in a row so he thoroughly deserves it. I wonder how much money David McGoldrick made sat on the sidelines for 6 months of every season. Waghorn needs a new contract now.

No other club's fans to such a degree, would excuse or accept an owners terrible penny pinching in the way that some of you do. None...

So pleased to see the importance of Bart to this club properly recognised. Same for Waghorn too please. This will lay down a marker to other players, if you perform, and commit, you will get rewarded.

If nothing else gives us a bit of breathing space, if he signs it, as we will not be forced to sell him on the cheap now!!
