West Brom Win Townsend Chase

West Brom are reported to have won the chase to sign Scunthorpe left-back Conor Townsend, beating the Blues and Hull City.

According to Iron Bru, the League One club have accepted an offer from the Baggies for Townsend with personal terms also agreed and the switch expected to go through at the weekend.

Earlier in the week, Townsend’s previous club Hull, who are entitled to 40 per cent of the fee Scunthorpe will now receive, had an offer of £250,000 turned down and the Blues a bid of £400,000.

Iron chairman Peter Swann confirmed the offers, describing them as “rubbish”. Townsend, 25, previously played for Blues boss Paul Hurst on loan at Grimsby.

timkatieadamitfc added 16:08 - Jul 27 Not bothered in the slightest as cannot believe he is as good as Kenlock or even Knudsen. Also didn't want ANOTHER lower league player signing for us. DESPERATELY need some quality in centre defence though.

jas0999 added 16:16 - Jul 27 We need two CBs as a matter of urgency. Kenlock and Knudsen are more than adequate options at left back. One of the few positions which don't need strengthening. One week to go and the squad looks stretched. Need a huge effort from Evans to close out deals.

To Timkatieadamitfc, if you had actually seen this lad play like I have, you'd know that he's in fact a very good player (in the Cresswell-mould). To think we've lost out due to not being able to afford £600k is quite depressing. Hey ho, onward and and upwards...

Len_Brennan added 16:27 - Jul 27 I was wondering why PH was so positve about Knudsen's performance against MK Dons, given that he was clearly trying to sign a 3rd 'first team' left back, who he presumably felt was at least as good as who he had already. Must have gotten the word that the lad would be going to WBA, maybe.

Fair point inbetweener I haven't seen him play, but why is he playing in league 1 at the age of 25? and why down vote me for saying I don't want another lower league player signing for us, you must be easily pleased if you want more of these type of signings, me I would prefer us to be signing some PROVEN championship players, because the rate forest,derby,middlesbro etc are spending money on players against our loan, freebie and lower league signings a mid table finish is all I can see us achieving EVEN if they all do perform really well.

MrTown added 19:42 - Jul 27 In all truth, I like signing Young lower league players, but I don't think we needed this one, and I think Hurst realises this after Knudsens performance against MK Dons and Kenlocks pre season, we have enough at left back. Think Curtis Tilt and Toto Nsiala and we have a highly competitive team. Strongest in years. COYB!!!!

@Trac70 Thank you for you opinion and I'll respect it, as I have stated it's of my knowledge, whether you choose to believe your choice.

I want to make clear, I may have worded it in a way which suggests I know all, which indeed I do apologise for. Was not my intent, simply to keep the good, positive momentum going. If I am wrong I dearly apologise but we will see I guess.
