Chambers: Players Must Take Responsibility
Friday, 26th Oct 2018 14:30

Blues skipper Luke Chambers says the squad must take some of the responsibility for former manager Paul Hurst’s spell in charge having come to a premature end yesterday with Town bottom of the Championship having won only once this season.

“A manager only loses his job if the players are not performing to the levels they should be,” Chambers told iFollow Ipswich.

“We have to take a lot of responsibility and try and step up to that plate. There is no hiding place. Our individual and collective performances have not been good enough so far and we find ourselves where we are.

“It’s an opportunity - if selected - for everyone to put in a performance at Millwall at the weekend and really take responsibility.

“I’m sure the owner [Marcus Evans] is down the line with who he wants to bring in and it will be a new start for everyone. Hopefully the clean slate can help us climb the table.”

Fair comment. But you should be one of the first to step up. Great professional, decent captain. Absolutely awful footballer. So many times seen him get the ball and hoof it up the pitch when hardly under any pressure, only for us to lose possession and be back under the cosh. Surely a professional footballer should at least be able to pick a team mate out now and again with a clearance.

Only one person needs to take responsibility for his actions and that's Evans.
We have slowly go worse season by season. Yes he saved the club from financial ruin but also killed the club with his lack of a football knowledge and lack of investment in a team to push for promotion.

...the comment on Evans is well taken. It is in his best interest business wise to make a success of ITFC instead of using the club as a tax write off. That takes a commit
ment that I have yet to see. Has anyone listed all of the players he has sold? It would look light a decent Premiership side imo!!

Can't fault his passion. But passion alone isn't good enough. We as fans are passionate, it doesn't mean we're good enough to play for Ipswich.

Too many times he aimlessly boots the ball to the other team for them to start their attack. The hardest decision our new manager has to make is to be brave and put Chambers on the bench until he shows he is capable of retaining the football.

Let's hope so. I read this as a touch of relief though, don't get too comfortable now that wurst has departed - all the players need to improve.

luke your having a laugh the team has broken more plates in the houses around PR with the bloody hoof balls thats been the norm over the last few years.God bless you all if a footballing manager comes in.The squad we have is the worse ive seen at our club not good enough at any level imo. The worse thing that happened to us was getting to the playoffs playing hoofball with McCarthy football was always going to kills us in the end. You cant keep punting the ball up in the bloody air and hoping for a break some days it works but overall you fail as did Mick and Hurst.Serious damage has been done by Mr Evens putting up with the rubbish seen on our pitch over the last couple of years and its going to be one huge job for whoever gets this poison chalice.

If the senior players had stepped up to the plate in August. Paul Hirst would still be here. And we wouldn't be bottom of the league. But yes agree with Chambers....please now step up for us to avoid relegation. Because quite frankly you've been abysmal up to now.

OMG!! Chambers is a COMPLETE joke!! AGAIN he blames everyone else when every supporter can see HE is the WORST player in the team. If we had a half decent centre half rather than him in the team Paul Hurst would still be here. I live in hope that who ever becomes the next manager, of our once great club, can see how really USELESS he is and drop him to the reserves.

"try and step up to that plate"? Do, or do not, there is no try.

Chambers saying all the right things again just as a new manager is about to come in...as said good captain but not sure about his footballing capabilities anymore , he's made as many mistakes as anyone in our defense this season. Can't see Lambert dropping him purely on the basis of his captaining qualities...

Am starting to think our captain is part of the problem.
Great off the pitch but is now repeating himself.

Also, where has the passion been during games. Walters did more to gee up teammates in the few minutes he pasted than chambers has done all season.

He also has had a gripe with PH based on an interview 2/3 weeks ago.

I suspect PH biggest regret was not getting Tilt in early and making him captain. Bet PH would still be here now in that circumstance

You have to earn the respect of your team mates to inspire. how you perform on the field gets respect. Chambers is very poor at defending and is a liability, Hope Lambert sees this today from the stands and acts upon it.....If he fails to do so. I fear we are doomed.....

When you are part of the problem it is easy to use hot air and pointless cliche to deflect the glare.

Chambers is one of the worst Captains we've had. Sorry but he is just full of BS and cliche. He says absolutely nothing of note.
