Owner Evans Invites Season Ticket Holders to Free Pre-Match Event
Thursday, 21st Feb 2019 10:25

Town owner Marcus Evans has written to season ticket holders inviting them to an event in the FanZone prior to the game against Nottingham Forest at Portman Road on Saturday 16th March.

Fans will be given a free pie and drink, Bryan Hamilton will interview former players and manager Paul Lambert and general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill will also speak. Tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis with all 10,200 season ticket holders having been emailed this morning.

Evans says the event is to “increase the levels of communication between the club and its fans” as well as appreciation of “the commitment you have made to the manager, players and the club in its entirety this season and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your most valued support”.

The initiative is the latest in a number of moves aimed at improving relations between fans and the club. Earlier this month a number of regular away supporters were offered VIP hospitality for a match, while matchday prices have been cut for several games.

An offer was always coming, just a shame some people are impatient and always moaning regarding the discounts. The common comment was 'a free pie and a pint' would be nice, so maybe those moaning will now apologise? Probably not, well done Evans!

Got to give credit where it's due. I think Evans has made a lot of effort to get the fans back on-board since last year and particularly since Lambert took over. It's pretty obvious that the Marcus Evans era has been pretty terrible in general but if he continues with how he's been these past few months then I believe good times will return.

At last something for the long suffering season ticket holders

Stays silent for 8 years. Guides the club to almost certain relegation to the 3rd tier. Suddenly realised how vital the club's amazing support is going forward.
Those attending, although over the moon at this gesture.
Once theve renewed and it then becomes clear that we start next season in L1 with a L2 budget. That's when a fresh freebie will be announced. It really is that simple to keep a lot of our support on side.

ITFCsince73, aren't you a bundle of joy.

Town fans must be the most gullible/easily pleased in the league.
I've run over and killed your dog but cheer up I've bought you a goldfish, be happy.

As said it's the relegation party!...a hint of 'it's partly my fault we're in this mess but as a gesture to the loyal fans have one of our Portman pukey pie and a pint on me' - cue the down votes!

I welcome this new era under Lambert and Evans's increased involvement. For the first time in years the club is appreciating its fans. Makes a change from the last couple of seasons when McCarthy, as the public face of the club, was seemingly given a free reign to shoot his mouth off, treating fans as if they were something off the bottom of his shoe.

Not many owners would do this when their club is at the bottom and this current state, I would like to think. Pleasant and sincere gesture from ME. Maybe the whole club has turned a corner with the arrival of PL? Feels like it!

Hop a long rabbit - you've got nothing to add, amazing how easily our supporters are won over with just the smallest of trinkets. This will come out of the summer budget and with just 10% of the revenue compared to now coming from TV rights once we drop into league 1 be prepared for an even smaller squad, some potential quality being sold and the stock of the club being at an all time low!...surprise me Evans!!

It's not an email - it's a letter which I received in the post today. Don't understand why anyone would complain? I will go and yes we all know that ME's tenure has not been terribly sucessful but take it for what it is and enjoy.

Honesty from him about past and future will be decent, and admit his booboos in the stingy department. Although I have always said money and fees don't always make a good team. With us just hasn't come to fore. ‘Still and will always love em'

That was nice of him.

A few little gestures here and there, perhaps he has listened to the fans, wants them to feel appreciated and is now learning what makes Ipswich town football club the club it is, off the field as well as on it?

Or, or if we were feeling cynical ITFCsince73 😂

Perhaps he is wanting season ticket holders to renew next year and is tempting them with freebies?

I'm going for the former myself.

But then it has been a beautiful day 🌞

Accept it for what it is; a gesture of goodwill. A pie and a pint does not buy support but it is a further sign that Lambert and Co have influence over our owner and the continuing need to not take season ticket holders for granted.
What about the veggies !

As it's St Patricks weekend I shall have to pace myself, but nothing beats a free pie and a pint, save 2.

It's a small gesture as a result of a fair amount of criticism. It's a good positive step, but very much seems like an after thought after numerous ticket promotions already this season.

It's a letter and confirmation that somebody at ITFC looks at TWTD

Fine as far as it goes but it will take much more than this to put right the damage the Evans regime has done to ITFC over the last eleven years.
