Town Confirm Bialkowski Enquiries
Wednesday, 19th Jun 2019 11:18

Town’s general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill has confirmed that the Blues have received "a number of enquiries" regarding keeper Bartosz Bialkowski and also for other players.

Millwall are understood to be frontrunners for the Polish international, while Birmingham are also believed to have renewed last summer’s interest, however, manager Garry Monk’s departure yesterday may well have an impact on their summer transfer thinking.

"“Naturally there is going to be a lot of interest in Bart. He’s been one of our best players for a number of years,” O’Neill told iFollow Ipswich.

""“We’ve had a number of enquiries for him - and for other players as well. We are not going to let any player go though unless it’s right for the club.""

“We have looked at other keepers out there if Bart does go - and we also have two young keepers in Harry Wright and Adam Przybek, who will have the chance to impress the manager - but at the moment Bart is an Ipswich Town player and will be back with us for pre-season training next week.”

""The Blues, who signed former Gillingham man Tomas Holy last month while youngster Adam Przybek was recruited after leaving West Brom following a trial, have spoken to QPR keeper Matt Ingram, while Bolton’s Remi Matthews is another of their potential new recruits should Bialkowski move on.

Town are understood to be willing to consider bids for Bialkowski, who is the highest-paid player at Portman Road following the bumper new deal he signed last year after returning from duty with Poland at the World Cup finals in Russia.

That new contract followed the Blues' refusal of a £3 million offer from Birmingham for the former Notts County and Southampton man, who, following a tough season for both club and player, is likely to fetch significantly less this summer, £1.5 million having been reported to be Town's valuation.

League One football will do nothing to improve Bialkowski’s international prospects and despite having said he is happy at Town - and that he plans to live in Suffolk once he retires - a move back to the Championship is likely to appeal should one of the interested clubs firm up their interest.

Striker Ellis Harrison is among the other players also attracting clubs, although we understand Portsmouth, who were keen in January and earlier in the summer, have cooled in their interest. Blackburn were also eyeing the former Bristol Rovers man, as well as Kayden Jackson, in January.

Winger Gwion Edwards was linked with Hull City early in the summer, however, the Tigers have since parted company with manager Nigel Adkins.

It's the other players that interest me, we know Bart is leaving it's just a case of when and for how much?

Transfers are complicated things, often clubs have to sell A before they can bid for B and the price received for A will influence their offer for B.

In respect of Harrison & Jackson personally I like them both but our service to strikers from midfield and our wing play/crossing was dreadful last season. I would like to see them get a chance with better service, certainly one of the two staying, probably Harrison.

It's going to be a long summer folks, buckle up!!

@algarvefan...finally someone who recognises that the service to the front players was nothing short of abysmal last season and this has to be corrected without delay.

We could have Messi playing up front for us but if the midfield are incapable of creating decent opportunities for the front players, then the returns are going to be meagre.

Still not convinced Bart is going, unless he thinks it's the best thing for the club and not just himself. Loyal and decent bloke who would do it if helps us out, but not because he wants to go.
Holy is a replacement for Gherkin, and Harry Wright and Adam Przybek are still ones for the future, but at this level, who knows what chances they might get. Holy might push Bart a little but would still prefer Bart between the sticks.

The Club simply can't afford to keep Bart anymore. We will sell him. It's all profit because he cost us zilch anyway , I believe. But the longer we have to pay his wages , the less that profit will be.

Funds can also be made elsewhere. We have been shocking and those responsible are still floating around club

How many season tickets have we sold to date?

It's irrelevant how much Bart goes for because it won't be reinvested in the squad or the ground, will just continue to make us the biggest selling club in the Football league. Evans is not spending anything on transfer fees, it's all about hitting the wage bill budget, that's all.

Or maybe stay and rebuild the club you helped sink last season? There's a novel concept. Could you imagine working for a company, sending it into a tailspin, then jumping ship to go somewhere else? The Bart that we got back from the World Cup was not the one who left us.

From what I remember we conceded most goals through awful defending (in particular Chambers) and poor finishing. When Sears got injured we were left with strikers that didn't appear to be able to shoot/head on target and beat goalkeepers.... Strikers and goalie/CB are the most important positions to sort

With Norwood in and Keane likely to come, at least one of Harrison and Jackson has to move on.

Bart will leave the club. No doubt about that.

O'Neil may as well as saved himself the breath and just said how it is, they're actively trying to manage Bart ou. That's the only reason they're speaking of interest, how often does the club comment on interest in players normally.

They're doing it for a reason.

Anyone thinking the money we get for Bart (should he go) will be put into recruitment and transfer fees is sadly deluded.

We've already been told that all transfers are ''certain to be based solely on Bosman free signings this summer''.

I thought he was happy at the club and well settled in the area. Is playing for a mid-table Championship club compared to a (fingers crossed) high flying Championship club really going to increase his chances of moving up the pecking order in the Poland squad? (If that is his sole aim?) He has been fantastic for us over the last few seasons (2018-19 apart), Premier League class and it still didn't get him the No.1 or No.2 position above Szczesny and Fabianski. I think there is a certain amount of pressure for him to leave from the club to free up his wages and cash in on what's left of this asset.
