Town Draw Blackpool at Home in FA Cup Third Round
Monday, 8th Dec 2025 18:49

Town have been drawn at home to League One Blackpool in the third round of the FA Cup.

Third-round ties will be played around the weekend of Saturday 10th January 2026.

The game will see Town reunited with former midfielder Lee Evans and one-time loan left-back Hayden Coulson, who are both in the Lancastrians' squad.

The Seasiders are currently 22nd in League One with Ian Evatt having been in charge since October.

They defeated Scunthorpe 1-0 in round one and Carlisle United 4-1 in the second yesterday, both at home.

The teams have met once before in the FA Cup, also in the third round, back in 2010 at Bloomfield Road when the Blues won 2-1.

Jack Colback put Town in front on three, Brett Ormerod levelled for the Tangerines six minutes into the second half and Owen Garvan netted the winner for Roy Keane's side in the 77th minute, the home side having been reduced to nine men, current manager Evatt and new Wolves boss Rob Edwards seeing red on 55 and 75 respectively.

Be good to see Lee Evans back.

I am pleased with the draw as we SHOULD win comfortably given Blackpool are 22nd in League One. No doubt we will play a reserve side as most teams do. The cup seems to matter less and less, and this year the third round draw wasn't even on proper TV.

And it was awful to watch

We need to stay in the cup for natural rotation. Going out of the league cup hurt us.
KMc, please don't play 11 kids. McArthy fielding a team of kids at Old Trafford in front of a huge away following was a major disconnect with the fans.

It will be nice to see Harry Clarke and Cam Humphries again.

Elkan Baggott was on loan at Blackpool last season, perhaps he can shed a bit of light on their squad.

This could make for a good tie and a great chance for some younger and lesser played players get some minutes. Really hope Baggott gets a run out or a start as he needs the game time and I think the travelling fans would be happy to see him again. Be a good chance to also let Humphreys and Fin start again in midfield and maybe even give Burns and Harry a run out (if they don't return before hand). Could also be used to debut any January signings

Will also be good to see Lee back again

Lets win this one and get a decent cup run going

Great draw for us. League one club who are very poor at PR anything less than seeing us in round four would be extremely poor.

Overall though, this is an underwhelming third round draw … not many standout ties.

Sadly we have not taken cups seriously and the fans get let down.I dont expect this season will be any different. Times have changed ,i always enjoyed the cup matches and looked forward to the fixture draws.

Blackpool, a fine old club, wrecked by previous owners. No need to relate the story here, it's easily accessible. Whilst I wish them the best of luck for the future, I will have to pass on that for one day in January!

Was there no inaugural FA peace prize presentation ?

The romance has gone out of the cup due to clubs not taking it seriously. If Blackpool field their strongest line up and we don't play a team of mostly first team regulars we all know what will happen.

If Town play a significantly weakened side it'll be the utmost disrespect to Blackpool and the competition....

ArnieM . We dont have a significantly weakened team unless we play the youngsters. Which with it being against a football lge team, is unlikely. Tho even if we did, how would it be disrespect to Blackpool. We're entitled to pick any team we wish.

I rest my case.

The spirit of the game and the FA Cup is long dead.

The FA Cup was huge when I was a lad (a long time ago now) but I do hope we get a run going, we have squad members who should relish the challenge. No cup game is easy but hopefully we will treat the FA Cup with the respect it deserves this season.

This match has Young, Akpom and McAteer to start all over it...so we know what that means.

Only just seen the draw, guess that says how interested I was in who we get. Big team little team home or away, we will lose! That’s just how it always goes. For a team that has won what was once the best club cup competition in the world, we sure do have a rubbish record since winning it!
Money and tv has given so much to football it can also be argued it has taken so much away! This and the league cup were the only live club games on the tv. I remember when we won it, the night before town ladies played Arsenal ladies at 5 a side, you also had it’s a knockout themed fa cup the night before, then on the day the cameras were with the teams at the hotels filming every second of the build up. Those were the days!

I bet Donald Trump was a bit disappointed at not getting the invite to collect his FA Cup Peace Prize.

Just hope we scrape through and Blackpool put out a weakened side.

But seriously of late the FA Cup for us has been a list of embarrasments, it would be great to go on a little run for a change.

Our record in the last three seasons under McKenna has been substantially better than in the past decade - fourth round, fourth round, fifth round (and mighty unlucky) - and getting beaten by Maidstone (despite the most shots I've ever seen Ipswich have in a single game) turned out to be a godsend: not least because it helped ensure that Coventry away game was postponed 'til they had nothing to play for...

I think we'll win this comfortably.
