Town Among Clubs Linked With Ex-Sunderland Midfielder
Friday, 31st Jul 2020 09:17

Town are reported to be among the clubs eyeing former Sunderland midfielder Ethan Robson.

Previously it was reported that Portsmouth, Oxford and unnamed Scottish Premiership sides were vying for the 23-year-old’s signature following his release by the Black Cats, however, according to the Portsmouth News, the Blues, Fleetwood and Blackpool are also interested.

Houghton-le-Spring-born Robson came through the youth system at Sunderland and made nine starts and five sub appearances for the Wearsiders, scoring once, prior to spending loan spells at Dundee and Grimsby in the last two seasons.

Robson is primarily a central midfield player and it would be a big surprise if the Blues were looking for a further signing in that area of the field with manager Paul Lambert already having plenty of options.

Other clubs cast offs (from the same league,) sounds about right. Probably with a view to replacing Downes. Nevermind at least we exist... 🙄🤣

ANOTHER Midfielder ! Why?

Agree, this can only be back-up for if we lose first choices through transfers, injuries and for cup games (unfortunately).

If we are genuinely seeking another central mid fielder then why not aim higher and try to recruit Andy King who has just left Leicester after many years service. He doesn't live all that far away (Rutland) and has experience of this league and of getting out of it and by all accounts is a good presence in the dressing room.

Not good enough for Sunderland but good enough for us? Reality check.

Why on earth would we want someone called Robson at Ipswich? No, no, no.

Aren't the 56,000 central midfielders we currently have not enough?

I think we do need another midfielder as Skuse is now past his best, Bishop is unreliable and Dozzell isn't good enough. However, I'm not sure Robson is the answer. Never thought I'd ever say that about somebody called Robson!

Andy King would maybe be a great signing for us but even at almost 32 not sure we could get him !

Andy King is miles out of our league/affordability. This is quite well rated by Sunderland fans. They let go of most of their team as in disarray trying to sell.

...but yes i expect this is nonsense unless just forward planning for any leavers

..... just add him to the list of other ‘reports'. Still, it gives an excuse for our most repetitive poster to get out of bed ! How's the Facebook protest going ?

Why do people in these comments get so heat up about these rumours. Links mean nothing yet some feel the need to believe everything they read. Just one on the rumour mill, never going to happen, move on

This may be a revelation to you Bert but I can type on my phone in bed 😂 How's backing the cause of our demise working out?!

We may have a few midfielders but can they string plenty of passes together and look as if they can create . No. Sort that out and we might have a good chance of 3 points every week. Not just the ODD decent show.

Paper talk. We will get a GK.... maybe a striker and if we are spoiled this year a defender.

I'd take Keough on a 1 yr deal at CB if we could get him

Town actually did the business last season when they got in Norwood. We were all pretty impressed, and it's a pity injury probably hampered him from being at his best. So for this season, forget the midfield and get the Bristol Rovers man in up front. I'd be happy with that.

Could do with a midfielder who knows how to score goals.

The goalscoring from midfield over recent seasons has been nothing short of pathetic.

Even in bed our non attending one dimensional poster takes the bait ! Agree with Steve that we need a goal scorer and, in my opinion, a midfielder within the squad that consistently runs the game and threads a decent pass through to the strikers. Matt Holland still lives locally !
