Town Confirm Free Streaming for Season Ticket Holders
Wednesday, 26th Aug 2020 10:24

Town have confirmed that season ticket holders will receive free access to live streams of the Blues’ home League One games while matches are behind closed doors or played in front of reduced crowds.

Non-season ticket holders will also be able to watch those fixtures, while away matches will similarly be available unless broadcast by Sky Sports.

As previously reported, Sky and the EFL have agreed the move to allow fans to see their teams in action with fans not expected to be allowed to return en masse for some months.

Home matches will be priced at £10 for non-season ticket holders, while non-Sky away games will be available to all supporters at the same price.

EFL chief executive David Baldwin said: “There is no argument that attending live matches is what the League, its clubs and fans want to see and, clearly, the overriding objective is to get supporters back into stadiums as soon as it is safe to do so.

“In the meantime, this framework allows our clubs, if they so wish, to reward their most loyal supporters by providing what we hope is only short-term access to watch their matches.

“It’s important that whilst the doors remain fully, or part shut, we ensure there is the ability for fans of all EFL clubs to be able to gain access and watch their team and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sky Sports for their support in this matter.

“Collectively, it’s not our preferred situation but given the circumstances Covid has presented us it gives us a temporary option whilst we finalise our plans for fans returning.”

Town’s Carabao Cup first round tie against Bristol Rovers on Saturday 5th September will also be available live on iFollow Ipswich at £10, but cup games are not covered by the free access for season ticket holders offer.

The Blues currently have just under 9,000 season ticket holders, all renewals from last year with seats not having been put on general sale.

Great news. At least will be able to see the home games - but it's going to be strange not actually attending the game.

Surely 23 £10 iFollow passes can't be all we get for our £500 season tickets?!

Football League clubs desperately need this revenue if they are to be able to pay their players. The downside is that this continues the path towards football being more of a TV rather then live sport, but if this option wasn't available, more casual fans would start following a Premier League club on Sky.

Why of course it isn't, should this whole virus thingy that has f*cked the world up just a little should just decide to up and leave as quick as it arrived you'll get to sit in your seat/s again, splendid eh!

I think most like myself who renewed their season ticket/s knew the score (no pun intended) with regard to the implications of the virus and being able to go to Portman Road to watch us play, I think everyone had hoped it would have gone by the seasons start and decided to secure their seat/s!

The football club had no idea of the time the virus would be and indeed that it still is around either, I'm pretty sure that everyone connected with the club would prefer the supporters to be at the ground on match days but it just can't happen, not the clubs fault at all and its a nice gesture to allow season ticket holders a free stream and yet people like you think they are entitled to "get more" because you made a choice to buy a season ticket, such a selfish train of thought to have!

Will hopefully be for only 2 or 3 matches as access for ST holders could be available in October.

Don't know where I'll be sitting though as my seat is by a stairwell but new that when I signed up 👍

I'm a season ticket holder and have been for decades. I am happy with the arrangement.

Championship season ticket holders also get to see mid week away games. Why not the same for all leagues?

Hats off to those 9000 fans who renewed their season tickets knowing that they may not get to see many of the games in 20/21.

I applaud your selfless loyalty and desire to help keep the club afloat.

@Bluearmy71

As I wrote on here before I would be happy for iFollow tickets in place of stadium attendance if home and away was included as then the value would come closer to what we paid out for season tickets.

Well maybe you should be happy for what you get instead of what you don't, the club would have been perfectly within their rights not to have given us season ticket holders anything for free, it shows extremely good will by the club to do this for us, maybe be a little more gracious in accepting what you were given for free, and stop bemoaning the club cos you wanted more, we were entitled to nothing extra upon purchasing our season tickets and the upshot is we now can watch our home games which is great!

I know having a season ticket can give you little perks for being first in line for away match allocation, priority booking for home matches and some other club membership things but never has the payment for it covered me for the price of away match tickets, our supporters have to pay the respective clubs money to enter their ground and watch a match, given this why do you expect away match streams for free?? You talk of value and yet seem to be overlooking the fact that you would spend your £500 on a home season ticket and then still have to spend god knows how much on travel to and the price of attending an away game on top of it!

Just think if the club had your attitude to the climate we all find ourselves in they could quite easily turn your words around on you and say "look how much we have saved you, probably double what your season ticket cost"!!

The club would have to refund the matches so they could not choose to take the money and give nothing. I presume the streaming offer is in place of live matches we paid for.

@Mark

Its not a case of the club taking our money its more a case of us allowing them our back details etc etc so no they really wouldn't have to refund, but I know in my mind that the club would do the right thing and not be so selfish to keep it!

And yet again you seem to think that this situation we are all in ( all club personnel included) is somehow the clubs fault, are you gonna ask the DVLA for your road tax money back cos you couldn't use a vehicle in lockdown?? Or the BBC the money back for your license fee cos no EastEnders was filmed therefore the BBC couldn't air it so you missed out on seeing it?? Or are the club responsible for that too??

I am a season ticket holder but have never joined iFollow.
Will the club email me on how to join or do I just sign up? How will they know I'm a season ticket holder and don't have today the £10?
Sorry for the questions but I'm one of the older generation who gets confused easily!!

@brittaniaman - As an expat Town fan I was able to watch the home and away games via iFollow on my PC. You just have to go to itfc.co.uk and there's the option of iFollow on the menu. Then you just click on next game and there should be an option to watch the game, it's via the web browser not the app. Also I never had the iFollow app on my phone, the app I had was the Ipswich Town app and that had either audio or video or the game plus the stats - you just login with your iFollow credentials.
