Blues Among Clubs Linked With Latics Winger
Monday, 3rd May 2021 18:36

Town are reported to be one of a number of clubs eyeing Wigan Athletic winger Joe Dodoo.

According to, Football Insider, the Blues, Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham are among several sides keen on the 25-year-old, who is out of contract this summer although with the Latics set to offer him a deal having scored four and assisted three in 11 League One starts and eight substitute appearances since signing in February.

Born in Kusami, Ghana, Dodoo came through the youth system at Leicester where he scored a hat-trick on his senior debut, a 4-1 Capital One Cup win at Bury in August 2015.

In total he made three starts and one sub appearances for the Foxes, adding one more to his goals total, before joining Rangers for £250,000 in the summer of 2016, after spending a short spell on loan at Bury the previous season and also having won one England U18s cap.

After failing to establish himself in the Rangers side, Dodoo, who is right-footed but tends to play on the left, moved to Charlton and then Blackpool on loan. Having been released by the Gers he joined Bolton on a free transfer in October 2019.

In the summer of 2020 he moved to Turkish side Ankara Keçiörengücü on a two-year deal, but left in January and returned to the UK and signed for Wigan in the following month.

He's never seemed to have a chance to settle anywhere, would be great if he is good enough and we're the club for him to call home.

An inside forward on the left might actually do the trick in our setup.

This does not fit the new transfer policy of signing players who only have cool names

Doesn't inspire me with confidence when a player hasn't stayed at one club for anytime. Not against buying from lower league clubs as long as they have established themselves over a period of time and are of good character and have a good work ethic. Peterborough United are a good example of this they keep finding hidden gems season after season for example Ivan Toney. Ipswich town must do their homework before buying a player for instance does the player still show the right attitude when things are not going well for the team.

We will be linked to every Wigan and Portsmouth players but we need to look at Championship players and the best of league one possibly an ex premiership old head Miller, Albrighton who would drop down with a promise of a coaching role.

Head1970 as much as we would love some experience like that it just wouldn't happen unless they are right at the end of their career like Stephen ward is. Someone like Albrighton would still attract the bigger clubs in the championship let alone league one.

Head1970

Spot on we will be link to every player Cook has managed, I think we have got to get use to buying players rather than looking at players who are out of contract.

Town have money to spend and it’s been a long time since we have been able to go for players rather than saying he is too expencive

It depends on how much the player is offered and if the dream is sold to them.

No thanks... we’ve done this whole concept of buying former managers players from past teams before - and quite frankly it’s boring and has only ever made us worse. Yawn on...

I've got to stop reading these rumours, they are all worthless until the articles are about signings.

Seems to have moved around a lot in a short time. That’s not usually a good sign.

Time will tell whether this is a genuine interest or just part of us being linked with every player who is available this summer!

If we have ambitions of winning the league 1 title next season, then I'm afraid he's not good enough.

I think that's 3 Wigan players we've now been linked with, how many more will there be ?

Talent , technique ,character and intelligence plus a physical presence are essential for incomers .
Dedicated, disciplined research needed for each and every possible member of ITFC squad .

Sadly, I don't think he will get us out of the Dodoo we are currently in!

if things continued as they have been Dodoo , would become something else very quickly, Cant see any real interest being shown in this one to be honest, nothing stands out about him other than his name .

I find it really interesting which players are all going through our heads at the moment. There will always be youngsters who are named like this fella, we certainly need up and coming players who will see a punt in League one with a much bigger club as worthwhile sacrifice and ride the wave up.
What interests me just as much though, is the talk of the older heads coming in to do a job for 2 years and then take up coaching badges. Albrighton has been mentioned above, but the name I cant get out of my head at the moment is Mark Noble who leaves West Ham this year, and who started his first team adventures on loan here way back. Relatively local as an East End boy, would certainly offer both parties some interesting options. And yes, i know he's 34 or so but that experience in the middle of the park would offer us a better alternative that the (assumedly) departing Skuse Huws etc, and give us some solidity alonside the younger lads....

PS should wait until the new head of recruitment starts,we need someone to provide balance to Cook. It can’t be left to him alone.
