Pigott Pompey Loan Move Close to Being Confirmed
Monday, 11th Jul 2022 16:17

TWTD understands Town striker Joe Pigott’s loan move to Portsmouth is close to being confirmed.

News that Pompey were targeting the 28-year-old emerged earlier today and we understand a loan deal with an option to buy is well down the line and set to go through in the next few days.

Pigott joined Town on a free transfer after leaving AFC Wimbledon last summer but made little impact in his first season with the Blues and it had been expected that the Maidstone-born frontman would move on this summer despite having two years left on his contract.

Town have already added Freddie Ladapo to their squad during the close season with a bid for Leicester’s former Portsmouth loanee frontman George Hirst understood to have been turned down.

Pigott scored three times in 14 starts and 15 sub appearances in all competitions during 2021/22.

Best all round, he does well there and we get a nice little fee.

Do feel a move was needed but Pompey could easily back fire.

Pigott with a run of games in a top 10 L1 team, could easily push them towards a play off position.

He can score goals at this level but just for some reason or another it didn't seem to click here unfortunately.

Mixed feelings.

Perfect hat trick coming up from Pigott in both fixtures, can't you just feel it?
It's the Towen way.

I think it's clear from this that we don't see Pompey as a threat! Sheff Wed and maybe Derby are the two big threats for me, after that it's anyone's guess as I would say that they are all now weaker than they were last season whereas we have strengthened. Plus 5 subs will help us whilst others may struggle to fill a bench without a few young ‘uns.

Piggott is a decent player but it hasn't worked out for him here for whatever reason. I have reservations about sending him to promotion rivals as this could comeback and bite us. Sure he needs a loan or a permanent move but I'm not comfortable with the Pompey move.

Hope it works out well for him, just not at our expense. Wonder if this means we're making progress with adding a new striker?

Positively portman
It's a loan . He cant play against us, certainly in the 1st game, and only in the return match if they buy him in january, after he's probably already scored 12-15 goals for them.

Cannot fault him for effort but his performances were not good enough last season and never looked like a prolific scorer in the team.

Do feel we need to bring in another striker...maybe someone with experience.

If he is given a decent run in a team playing a rather more direct style than us, he could score quite a few goals.

Just watch him stick a brace past us in the league now.

Good news, as it will free up place in the squad and money to bring in a new striker.

Pigott had plenty of chances last season and just seemed to get worse and worse. A new start may do him good.

Clear from this we are lining up a marksman.... exciting to see that the management are on the same sheet as supporters. This squad is going to be awesome.

Hmmm would rather he didn't go to a potential rival although this makes me think there must be a deal in for someone further down the line than we've been told

It's not a good idea loan for rivil team! If loan,Why don't loan him to L2 to get the confidence back (half season),incredible!!

Not worked out for him…. Proven he can score goals at that level. Goodbye and good luck.

Will Simpson be given a chance tomorrow?

If not we need to recruit again… with one eye on a player who can score goals from set pieces..

Bluewarrior. Not sure why you, and many others seem to think derby will be a big threat? Yes, they'd signed some decent players but they've lost pretty much all their best players from last season. And are still restricted on who they can sign. So think it remains to be seen, how much of a threat they will be.

In all honesty I'm not sure if this is good or bad. Joe is a good player but given his sad loss of his Father it was no wonder he didn't sparkle. That said I also don't think he was given a fair chance by both managers we had last season.
At the beginning under Paul Cook, Joe had to drop deep to try to get involved. He had very little service. Then Kieran McKenna came in but evidently didn't think Joe was the answer.
Just a pity we didn't see the best of him but good luck at Pompey Joe.

He can't come back to bite us. Wonder if there's a player in there. Seriously though Portsmouth could be one our rivals and if he scores a hat full of goals it could have an effect on our fortunes.

Pompey might or might not be up there but Pigs scoring a hat full this season is going to do harm to several of our rivals which will probably balance one team getting a higher points tally. I wish him all the best, ha always desperately wanted it to work out at Town.

Agree Fat_Boy_Tim, but whichever way you cut it this is a ballsy statement of intent if this comes to pass. Conventional thinking would be NOT to strengthen your Promotion rivals, so this just shows how confident the Club is feeling and hopefully it is not seeping into arrogance as suspect he WILL score goals, but at least if it is a loan (leading to purchase) he cannot play/score against us !

With possibly Piggott and Bonne gone - doesn't look too promising.
Bonne proves again he can score Goals if played to his strengths - two bagged at the weekend for Rangers - and we know Piggott has done so before joining us.
Watch both move out and score goals again this season … !!!
