Phillips Set For Town Medical
Thursday, 15th Aug 2024 10:49

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is set to undergo a medical at Town later today ahead of the completion of his season-long loan move to Portman Road.

Earlier this morning, news broke that the Blues were on the verge of signing the 28-year-old for 2024/25.

Terms regarding the move are now agreed with City paying a proportion of the England international’s wages while he’s with the Blues.

The deal is a major coup for the Blues, Phillips having been a regular for the Three Lions as recently as last year and overall having won 31 full caps, scoring once.

Phillips has, however, had a frustrating time since joining City for £45 million in the summer of 2022 from Leeds, making only two league starts and 14 sub appearances for the Premier League champions, then spending the second half of last season on loan at West Ham where he started only three top flight matches in addition to playing five games from the bench.

The Blues also remain in the hunt for the loan signature of Napoli midfielder Jens Cajuste, who is understood to be travelling back to the UK, having returned to Italy after the breakdown of his switch to Brentford, to get the deal done.

Brilliant signing if he can get back to the player he was 2 years ago. Man City are paying a large chunk of his wages so helps with the issue of unsettling the dressing room. I think McKenna can make him a better player than he was under bielsa and he’s had 2 years under pep. Anyone moaning about this is disrespecting mck and Phillips himself. He didn’t play much at city as opposed to playing badly. Ok, West Ham didn’t go well but lots of players have a bad spell.. would we moan about signing Rashford who’s been poor for well over 12months now. Hope this works out well and I’m very happy with this addition.

If we can get this over the line I would be very happy. I see parallels with Ross Barkley, granted that they are different kinds of players. Barkley seemed to have goofed by moving to Chelsea and his career went backwards. Then, at Luton and despite their relegation, he played well enough to get a move to Villa.
We're in for a long, difficult season and if McKenna can get a tune out of KP,, it might just make it a bit less difficult. He was never going to succeed at Manchester City, and im not ignoring his less than dazzling loan spells, but there's chance he could turn that around with us.

This could be the signing of the decade and is a no lose gamble.

When opening vs Morecambe a few short years ago if someone would say we’d be here signing England’s player of the year at that time you’d have been sent them to the funny farm.

Anyone looking at this as a negative just may as well give up.

Sorry for the extra commas and other mistakes. I'm typing this on my phone and not wearing my reading glasses.

I’m going to need some convincing. Fortunately, it’s not me he needs to convince. Is he an alternative to Sam or would he play alongside him? I think if he’s fit he could start v Wimbledon. Only if KNcK thinks he’s ready would he start v Liverpool. Personally, I think it might be too soon. Here’s hoping we get the player he can be and not the one we’ve been reading about over the last couple of years. If anyone can get him playing it’s McKenna.

Potential fantastic ,both personal ,for the Club and for the possibility of an England future !
KM will find the ways to draw the best out of KP ,and revive his dynamism and help him understand and restore his faith in a Team with terrific unity and spirit !
Might easily end up our Player of the Season .

This - this is the signing we've been waiting for this summer. Perfect addition to mitigate the ageing legs of Morsy and Luongo. We have the chance to rehabilitate the career of someone who still has the potential to be a great great player. What price we have two England internationals by the end of the season?

Biggest gamble of this transfer I feel is upsetting the squad harmony, he'll no doubt be on at least double the wages of the next highest earner. If he can buckle down and get his form back then brilliant. Szmodics is the key for me, he'd be the perfect addition and really hope we bust a gut to get him.

Get him on the bench for Saturday. It’ll give him the chance to soak in the magical atmosphere and realise that he made the right choice in coming to ITFC on loan.

Those long crossfield and through balls, you can see why McKenna would like him.

Much to prove this one has - not at all convinced, but we’ll see !

You weren’t convinced when gamechanger came in either, look how wrong you were there in fact just look at most things you say, most have ended with egg on your face, so hardly qualified to comment on the football knowledge of others!

Great signing if this happens.

Look how far we have come in under 3 years when international players choose us over more established prem teams!

For those who think this club lacks ambition recent signings and now this great move shows out intent in CAPITALS i still think Mr Ashton is on a par with K.M as our best signings as these new additions would not be in the building without them.

Cajuste is possibly going to Everton as it’s reported they have hijacked the deal.

Blueboy1981 has been bemoaning the lack of business and now he has a pop at fans who want to be positive. Very weird.
