Broken Glass Cause of Tuanzebe's Hand Injury
Tuesday, 8th Oct 2024 13:32

Blues defender Axel Tuanzebe’s hand injury was reportedly the result of a kitchen accident which could have seen him lose his thumb.

At the weekend, manager Kieran McKenna revealed that the DR Congo international had undergone hand surgery after “a very unfortunate accident” which will keep him out of action for a so-far unspecified period.

According to the Daily Mail, the former Manchester United man was washing up and broke a glass, shards of which which lacerated his his hand, leading to fears he could lose his thumb. However, those concerns were allayed after surgery.

Speaking after the 4-1 defeat at West Ham, McKenna said: “He’s going to be out a little while, so we’re going to have to adjust and regroup as a team.

“He’s done a hand injury, a very unfortunate accident. He’s had a surgery and he’ll be out for a while.

“To be honest, we don’t know [precisely how long], it’s not going to be a couple of weeks, it’s probably going to be longer but we’re still in discussion with the specialist about what’s the quickest return.”

Proper bloke, does the washing up old school but doesn't leave it to the missus. That being said, we could have done with him at West Ham.

Yikes. Friend of mine gave herself a full handgina pushing shoving down in a full bin which turned out to have a broken wineglass in it. Still makes me feel weird to think about it.

Wasn't there a footballer in the 2000's who damaged his knee ligaments from having his feet on a coffee table for a couple of hours after training?

if he did it late last week - then - no proper preparation for his replacement would have been possible for West Ham. Very unfortunate for everybody.

Sliced through the side of my finger down to the bone on a knife in the sink a few years ago. Luckily no tendon damage (a ‘flesh wound’), but boy was there a lot of blood and I wasn’t laughing about it.

Its when you slice/detach important stuff the fun really begins. My former work colleague managed to do his thumb good and proper in a dopey go kart accident - two operations and months later it was still a problem.

Stuff happens.

I heard he wanted to buy a dishwasher but when he reached for his wallet, he only found Mitoma in his pocket.

come on he doesn't need a functioning thumb to play. Just keep him off throw-in duty perhaps.

This is going to be months of rehab for him. A very serious injury, and he wont be playing anytime soon. I wish him a very speedy recovery, but we now have a problem at RB because the cover is weak.

This must surely beat Ian Marshall's shopping trolley injury?

Uh Oh. I remember in the past certain player injuries. This ia what life throws at you, but at smaller clubs can we absorb this injury as well as others can? In McKenna we trust.

Sounds like he was just unlucky. Couldn’t really say that about Kev throwing petrol on a bonfire…

While slightly less painful to read than the John Bobbitt story, it's a tough injury and will take a while to recover.

Ironically, having him fit for Everton would be handy.

The right back position is cursed we haven't had a settled one in ages then we find one and this happens. As much as i like Harry Clarke being a local lad i cannot see him being a Premier league player although he's better than Johnson who offers nothing. In my opinion Greaves hasn't looked the same player since O'shea has been in the team it might be just a coincidence though. I would bring back Wolfenden and Walton for the next game i don't think the defence have confidence in Muric. We've brought in championship players and that's what we're looking like at the moment. The game against Southampton sent out alarm bells ringing for me both teams looked championship standard. I know Edmundson is not a fullback but could we regret sending him out on loan. I know the happy clappers on here will tell me im wrong and everything is fantastic and a win is just around the corner. McKenna has to get the great team spirit back that was missing at West Ham even if it means dropping big money signings.
