Al-Hamadi Deal Not Done But Baggies Want Permanent Switch
Tuesday, 21st Jan 2025 18:44

No deal has yet been done between the Blues and West Brom for the signing of striker Ali Al-Hamadi but TWTD understands the Baggies are looking to sign the Iraqi international on a permanent rather than loan basis.

Widespread reports in the Midlands this morning claimed Al-Hamadi was with the Hawthorns club today to undergo a medical and complete the formalities on a loan switch.

However, we understand that was overstating the position with the clubs still to agree terms on a move with the Championship side keen on the permanent addition of the former AFC Wimbledon man rather than a loan, as had been suggested.

Al-Hamadi did travel for talks with the club now managed by former Blues skipper and coach Tony Mowbray but with the move still having a long way to go before it is done.

The 22-year-old has been Town’s third-choice frontman this season but his only starts came in the cup ties against his former club AFC Wimbledon and Bristol Rovers.

In the summer, Al-Hamadi was close to signing for Derby on loan but the move didn’t happen after Town pulled out of the deal to sign Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea.

A move - either permanently or on loan - during January has always looked on the cards with the Blues known to want to bring in a more senior frontman during this window.

Iraq-born, Liverpool-raised Al-Hamadi joined Town for around £1 million from the Dons in January last year and has made three starts - one in the league - and 24 sub appearances, scoring five times. His only goal this season came in the Carabao Cup tie against his old club at Plough Lane in August.

Minimum £3m .....he's played in the championship. He's a striker. We've paid north of £20m for players with Minimum or no PL experience ....

Gotta love his attitude and to be fair he scored a few goals last year but if we can get our money back it's a no brainer.

I'd take 1m plus performance-related add ons (goals scored and promotion), a sell on fee plus a buy back clause/first option. Similar to the Philogene deal to Hull last year.

IMHO Ali hasn't yet hit his ceiling and has plenty of room to improve, but don't think he'll make it at Premier level, and needs regular games to get himself to Championship level.

Al-Hamadi scored 23 in 42 for Wimbledon and, while the step up from League Two to the Premier League is too much, he is only 22 years old. If he can get fully fit and do the business in the Championship, he would be worth millions. Strikers are very hard to find. If we do sell I think a decent sell-on clause would be a priority.

Algy you only get a sell on fee on the profit so if a million they would get nothing

3 million for Hamadi? No chance, he is only proven at League 2 level with odd goals in other league's.
If we can get maybe 1.5mill that would cover his fee and wages, agent etc
That would be good for everyone, put in a buy back just in case he becomes a superstar, you never know!

Wow, so many people wishing away a promising young goalscorer with plenty of potential who we've barely had a year, as if we've got a queue of them coming out of the academy who are Premier League-ready. Thank goodness that's not who we are as a club any more.
