Al-Hamadi West Brom Move Breaks Down
Tuesday, 21st Jan 2025 19:57

Striker Ali Al-Hamadi’s proposed move to West Brom has now broken down.

As reported earlier, West Midlands sources this morning overstated the progress the move had made with claims he was with the Baggies to undergo a medical regarding a loan.

The Iraqi international had, however, held talks with Tony Mowbray’s side regarding a permanent switch but with no deal agreed between the clubs and discussions regarding the potential move broke down this afternoon.

The 22-year-old has been Town’s third-choice frontman this season but his only starts came in the cup ties against his former club AFC Wimbledon and Bristol Rovers.

In the summer, Al-Hamadi was close to signing for Derby on loan but the move didn’t happen after Town pulled out of the deal to sign Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea.

A move - either permanently or on loan - during January has always looked on the cards with the Blues known to want to bring in a more senior frontman during this window.

Iraq-born, Liverpool-raised Al-Hamadi joined Town for around £1 million from the Dons in January last year and has made three starts - one in the league - and 24 sub appearances, scoring five times. His only goal this season came in the Carabao Cup tie against his old club at Plough Lane in August.

Never looks fit and couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo. I'm sure he's going to make more progress and will develop further, but at the moment it's a valuable squad place used up which could be used for better quality. I predict the words 'mutual consent' on the horizon

I did raise an eyebrow when this link was announced, that a team chasing promotion in the Championship were interested in him. If i'm honest he's still unproven at Championship level.

He is in dire need of game time - both to regain confidence and fitness. I think he needs a loan to a top League One side. If a lower Championship side is prepared to make an offer then that would be a bonus.

Carberry. As usual only come on here to be negative. He was bought to be cover in the championship, as it was never planned to get promoted last season. So nothing wrong with the recruitment. He's just become a victim of our success.

Ali has a great work ethic and energy, I am sure he contributes and pushes the squad in training. He hasn't had a real chance here, mostly because he has always had 2 decent forwards ahead of him. But this nonsense about him being a terrible signing or lazy winds me up. He was important in our promotion (created and scored goals winning us points). I am sure he would be a success in the championship if given games, and easily worth £1M.

Good luck Ali, keep on working hard.

Hilarious blues1, you only come on here to call people out.
He's a victim of our success is he? He hasn't even looked good enough for the Championship as so many people on here agree.

Sod em. Loan him out to another club. He needs regular games now. WBA have tried to pull a finger here and get him on the cheap. It's not AH fault we hit bavk to ba k promotions. He was bought with a view to develop at Championship level, not in the Plastic League ... show him some respect please!

Perhaps Derby will sign him and play him alongside Jackson, that'll be a prolific partnership !

Should I be flabbergasted at how out of touch some people are on here? We buy Al-Hamadi in the Championship as a promising prospect (his goals in L2 prove that.

We then get promoted and our ask of him sky rockets. He's not going to tear through the league like Delap has and it stands to reason that we should loan him out to see how he does in the Championship. It's a gamble, but McKenna thought he was worth a 1m punt (which is nothing by the way - this isn't 2007 anymore), so it would be utterly pointless to try and make a quick million or two out of him.

He clearly has potential even in the Premiership, so give him a chance. Not really too much to ask, is it?

I think he needs to go on loan somewhere where he's going to be main man and play as much football as possible. He needs it as his confidence is shot and he looks woefully unfit. A top half League One club would fit the bill - I think that will prove to be his level with the passage of time. Get him scoring some goals so we can move him on in the summer and write this one off as a rare poor signing by McKenna.

I don't see anything in him to suggest he'll be a top level player, not even top half Championship (the WBA interest surprised me to say the least). He didn't particularly impress me last season in the Championship.

Oxford, Millwall, Luton or Charlton would be my bet.
Personally I’d head for The Kassam and work under Gary Rowett.
Best of luck where he chooses.

Feel a bit for him as he’s had injuries and that Derby loan fell through. He’s nowhere near Prem standard and desperately needs a loan. If we are to go down and he’s been with us this whole season he’d be of no use for us in the Championship next season anyway.

WestSussexBlue, 100% agree with you. Somewhere like Oxford would be absolutely perfect.

He hasn’t got a future at Town. Not his fault, as some have said, but if we stay up or go down he won’t get a look in. He’s a L1 striker at best, and he needs to move on permanently for his own career progression.

You're right Lathers, he's a League 1 striker at best and we paid £1M for him.
Good business?

Of course he could still have a future at Town. He's only 22 and we gave him a five year contract because we saw development potential. He still has that potential but we didn't necessarily expect him to be thrown straight into the PL, and we haven't seen the best of him due to injury, lack of game time and loss of confidence and rhythm. He's an extremely nice, humble and grounded individual and I've no doubt his hard work and humility will ultimately lead to success.

Blues1, agreed and Like so may others. We've come so far so fast from where we were that we're bound to have a few squad members that aren't quite cutting the mustard at the level.

We shouldn't be on here picking players out like this though. we need to get behind the team as a collective because that's exactly what they are. We should appreciate where we are at and trust the process because if we cant trust this beautiful lot to run it then what are asking for??

Will always get the negative angry few on these platforms but I'm grateful that there are still plenty of goodn's in a town shirt that understand what it is to be football supporter.
