Town 'Monitoring Bamford Situation'
Tuesday, 6th Jan 2026 15:12

Town are reported to be keeping an eye on Patrick Bamford’s situation at Sheffield United.

The striker signed a short-term deal at Bramall Lane in November having left Leeds at the end of last season.

The 32-year-old has scored five goals in six starts and four sub appearances for the Blades and manager Chris Wilder is unsurprisingly keen to keep the once-capped former England international beyond the end of his contract, which is up on January 11th.

According to Alan Nixon, the Blues are monitoring the situation, while it’s believed other Championship clubs are also keeping an eye on developments.

Speaking last week, Wilder said the Blades were expecting Bamford to commit to staying in South Yorkshire.

“We're confident that we can do something,” he told the Sheffield Star. “The feedback we've got from Pat is really positive. He knows, as I’ve said before, what we think of him.

“I'm sure he’s enjoying his football, enjoying playing for the football club and pulling on that shirt.

“And I'm pushing as much as I can. But obviously there's a negotiation involved in it. And there will be an attraction from other clubs because of what he's done. So that was the gamble of bringing him in.

“He wanted to sign a short-term deal as well. So it’s not that we didn’t give him a longer-term deal. That’s the road that he wanted to go down. He’s backed himself, which is good. And we’ve backed ourselves in terms of a club and what we can give him.

“So it’s pretty much a balancing act, what we've given Pat and what he's given us. I think we're a good fit for him and he's a good fit for us. So hopefully, yes, we can get that over the line in mid-January.”

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha predicable bunch of down voters.

God some of you need to get a life. The level of bullying on this forum is ridiculous and none of it is moderated by the owners either. Shame on you all.

Not one for the future though is he?...if we were to get promoted I just don't feel he'll cut it at that level, unless we're looking at short term.

Yes please. Experience counts for a lot. He is a decent striker who I'd imagine would have the right attitude and fit in well. Ideal striker to help us with the promotion push

I think Bamford is a better technical player than Hirst and would therefore be a decent short term addition but he’s not prolific. Callum Wilson is a proper goalscorer but would he step down a league and he’s likely to have a few offers

Why are we not recalling Chappers? He loves the club, the fans love him and he will score goals at this level.

Alex Jones at the EADT came up with possibles last week, most of whom l would prefer to Bamford, particularly Piroe at Leeds.

Branchini1979 - good point. France well worth a go, eg Matusiwa and Kipre!

Some of our fans are unbelievable. Keep on that we need a striker wholl score goals, then moan when we're linked with some1,whos scored 5 goals in 6 games. As forcthose saying he's always played up north? Played for chelsea, Norwich, mk dons. Wasnt aware they're up north. As a deal until the end of the season, it'd be a good signing.
Stewarts number 1. Gelhardt? Really? Yes, he has scored 10,this season, but only scored 10,in the previous 8 seasons.

If there is anything in this it points to us looking for a short term solution rather than long term.

Not surprising in my view. The January window is a sellers market and getting the player we want long term could be very difficult and very, very expensive. I think we are looking at a deal like this or a loan.

Bamford wouldn’t be the worst option but only if we can keep him fit.

I'd rather have Keifer Moore.

All this depends on precisely what we are looking for. Is it someone really experienced who can come in and do a short term job till the end of the season, and then probably move on. Or, is it a younger player who's decent now with potential for more and a prospect for the PL too? A loan or permanent, home based or foreign? " They " keep saying it's a difficult market for strikers especially in January. I think it's more of a self fulfilling prophecy and just lazy talk. They are out there, go find them!

Don't think he'd be a bad signing, but it's about time we cast our scouting net a lot wider. Its a global sport, not just limited to the championship !!

Ok as a short term solution to cover for Hursts’s injury but think he will stay in Yorkshire . Would prefer Kieffer but we aren’t going to get him. I don’t honestly see town buying someone for a big transfer fee in this window although signing a decent striker could be the difference between getting promoted automatically and the play offs. KM and MA have to decide whether it’s time for another Marcus Stewart type signing or get a young striker from PL league club or an old stager like Callum Wilson

He wouldn't be a bad signing, he's a very good finisher at this level.
However surely it's about time, with how far the club has come, that we started spreading our scouting net far wider. Its a global sport, not just limited to the championship !!

Surely we've spoken to Walle Egily about the next Haaland.

Gforce, quite so. And the globe is getting easier to circumnavigate by the year. No excuses for not having a presence of sorts in places like S. Asia, S.America, Africa, N.America and of couse a lot of Europe. If we truly have aspirations to once again become one of the " big boys ", we need to be playing big boy games.

Excellent scoring record, loads of experience and does a lot of running off the ball - just what we need.

Can score goals …. Better than Hirst and Azon … who frankly struggle to find the net. Plus Hirst injured again …

think you mean ‘Adam’ Tellitasitis

He's not one for the future Timmy but if he scores the goals that get us promoted, we'll have the money to buy an upgrade.

Anyway, it's only a rumour and probably won't happen.
