All Brexit voters so let 'em sink. No point believing experts about a storm surge anyway.

Didn't the "experts" tell them to evacuate 4 years ago and nothing happened/

Not a great year for experts is it?

You mean the 2013 tidal surge which did all this? You think the experts go it all wrong and weren't being cautious to evacuate?

When you say "nothing happened", the last storm surge put the defences along much of the east coast to their sternest test since 1953 and, as designed, they held in most places. However, it was a close run thing and IF a defence fails on a low lying coast then the flooding is rapid and dangerous. What do you think is best - leave people in dangerous locations or move them until the danger has passed?

I think we need Michael Gove to sort out all of these so called 'experts'. I mean despite years in their field, they're not 100% accurate every single time (so he must know more than they do).

I asked a question. I didn't make a statement. The news just reported that they gave the same warnings 4 years ago and nothing happened.

It's forecasters rather than experts isn't it. There is a difference and forecasting is never going to be an entirely accurate thing to do, and when there is safety involved you do need to go with the worst possible scenario, just in case you get it wrong and someone ends up harmed.

It looks like the wind has moved from NW to Sw so the flooding may not happen unless the low deepens

It's typically showing what has just been happening and certainly isn't live, but very impressive.

Here's a thing. I am currently reading a book about dark age battles. part of the theme is working out where the battles took place and what the battlefields would have been like at the time. Not an easy thing given the lack of documentary evidence for most of them.

The battle of Maldon, which took place not so very far from Jaywick is one of the best documented though and most sources are reasonably confident of where it took place. The most likely site being by a causeway across The Blackwater to the Northey Island. Now the author states that the ground would have been less muddy and marshy at the time of the battle than now, because sea levels in this part of the world have reason 5-6 feet since then.

That is quite a rise, about 0.07 inches a year, meaning that in the 64 years since the great flood of 1953 the sea level would have risen by over 4 inches, assuming an even rise over the years.

I know when I was school we were taught that southern half of Britain was sinking, but nevertheless that is quite a rate.
