No that began when we surrendered to the IRA.

Now the question is - did partition need to happen in the first place?

He would crush Rudd. Davies is a very good speaker and campaigner.

Only in the sense that anyone who believes anything he says is a complete idiot.
Oh, I forgot, most people are pretty thick in this country

I think one of the problems with Theresa is that people aren't convinced by the soundbites at all. I think it's generally perceived now that she relies on soundbites and repetition so much because that's all she can do - she has no personality, wit, charm, ideology, intelligence or political nous behind the soundbites to back it up.

The idea that an election strategy can be devoid of policies, without engaging in debate, without trying to demonstrate that her party has better ideas, without acknowledging that the public may be intelligent and informed, is pretty awful.

For all Jeremy Corbyn's many flaws which we are fully aware of, he at least is putting forth ideas and arguments, trying to communicate some sort of positive vision.

Whatever becomes of Theresa May and the conservatives in this campaign, it all feels cynical beyond belief - it's difficult to see how anyone with a genuine passion for political debate could wish for such a strategy to succeed.

"she has no personality, wit, charm, ideology, intelligence or political nous"

You've nailed it. The only thing that she's got going for her politically is the seeming need to please everyone. Which explains how she can rise in the party but means she's an utter void as a Prime Minister.

She's probably a good manager. She can take in a lot of information and make decisions but not communicate particularly well. Jeremy is the polar opposite

What do you base that on? She's managed this election like a rabbit manages headlights.

home secretary is not one of the easy ministries. she was there for along time. you can't be an idiot and survive in that role.

but her electioneering skills are non-existent and she has put together a team of incompetents to set her strategy.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

I think she just thought people would be sensible and she already had it in the bag... then Jeremy comes along with his "vote for me and all your dreams will come true" line and, unbelievably, everyone seems to fall for it. I would say Cameron was better but he made the same mistakes over brexit.

Your last line doesn't really suggest she's a good manager, does it?

I see her more as a traffic rather than a manager - a conduit for other people's ideas and needs. The "bloody difficult" comes from when she's out of her depth and has to act.

Genuine question, if there is no hard border and we have no freedom of movement then how is it enforceable? These two things seem mutually exclusive?

SB

Exactly. We will either have to force people from NI to show their passports to get into the rest of the UK, or there will have to be a united Ireland, or we will have to back down on freedom of movement, or Ireland will have to have the power to limited control over immigration.
It is a mess, and Ireland will have the right of veto.
There will be a similar discussion over Gibraltar. Imho this is start of the end game for both leaving the UK/UK control.

That might be the case for NI but can't see it for Gibraltar. There's already a hard border there and no-one living there wants to be part of Spain.

They are stuffed without access to Spanish labour and markets. Spain will have a veto on the terms.

It's almost as if Brexit is a bad idea.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Poll: With Evans taking 65% in Huddersfield, is the Banter Era over?

Looks more and more stupid every day!
Going to get worse before it gets better, unless May asks for the Norway deal, which she should, but won't.

i bet shes loving it. shes gone very quiet at the moment - not upsetting the applecart.

6 weeks ago id have said it was nailed on tory victory. now, im really not so sure which way it will go.
whilst my personal view hasn't changed - the world around me seems to be overwhelmingly voting/suppoting labour. social media is overwhelmingly being run by labour activists. there is very little in the way of tory "propeganda"

Tory propaganda is all over mainstream media though and will ultimately be more influential in terms of the election result than what you're seeing on social media.

With the current team not understanding the rules we are not capable of negotiating now.
Think of it like this - the right don't want to negotiate they just want out = completely

It is becoming apparent that the UK or England will have to completely leave the EU then negotiate en mass with the other 27 for the bits they want.

Mrs May is hopeless simply because she doesn' understand this.

I think she and most else in politics ... and commentators, know this.

The problem is in the difficulty in trying to explain this to the sheep

"Project fear... baa baa ... EU Bad, ukip better ... baa baa"

The approach from the Tories has been one of push for an impossible deal then when it becomes obvious what in really entails it will all fizzle. Pretty much as it has done. Let the heat settle, then quietly for get it.

Cynics might suggest that May and everyone else knows that if she makes this an election on brexit, if she returns with a lower majority and the opposition vote goes up, where then the 'will of the people' ?

Don't think that if you can work this out, those who are paid to do similar 'working out' can't as well.

Those pulling the strings know exactly what they are about and what they are trying to achieve - sadly an awful lot of folk don't.
