If May continues to devalue the lives of EU nationals currently living in the UK by using them as bargaining chips. Guy Verhofstadt says a fair proposal needs to be put forward immediately.
David Davis and the team keep telling us though they are the arch negotiators and start most sentences with "when in a negotiation" or "in a negotiation like this" - I trust him to deliver a good deal...

It is a mystery to me why when we face so many issues over which we will require good will from the EU to allow all sides to progress to a reasonable outcome May is digging her heels in over this one.
This just upsets people living and working in the UK at the moment, as well as placing strain on the relationships with our European partners.
May was the only candidate in the Conservative Leadership election who took the position that EU citizens should be used as bargaining chips in these discussions, and a huge number of the sensible leavers were vocal prior to the referndum that this wouldn't happen.

She's really messing this up imo.
Agree.
They should have generated some good will from the outset by offering an unconditional and generous deal to EU nationals in the UK, now and the future ones. If you want something the other side have i.e. good access to markets then starting off by telling them you'll walk away or pull defence spend is amateurish.
Sick of hearing from Davis and Fox they are skilled negotiators because they are not. I work in a FTSE 100 company and often work on complex deals - their negotiating stance/tactics are apalling, like a bunch of 6th formers.
We are without doubt, sadly, heading for no deal.

It's almost as though brexit is about pandering to a group of ignorant xenophobes in a pathetic attempt to save the tory party.

A poorly disguised attempt to get more 'rights' for the EU than the UK.
No, please keep up. The EU position on Human Rights has been established and developed over decades Mrs May has already stated she wants to get rid of Human Rights AND - this means yours as well

Removing ourselves from the ECHR is not the same as getting "rid" of human rights though is it.

What don't you understand? The position that he's taking is pro-EU and anti-UK in the negotiations?
No; he is taking steps to protect the rights of Humans not to have some right wing zealots remove human rights.
Already the 'Brexiteers' have said that proection of EU cirizens rights would mean those EU citizens in the UK would have superior rights to the generic population.
Plain & simple the tories have sent a message = we want to abolish human rights' - how many times do they have to tell you?

Whether you regard these 'rights' as superior or not, the UK are offering both to some people, whereas the EU are only offering their own.

I don't understand why we should offer less to EU citizens living in the UK than the EU have already offered to UK citizens living in the EU.
And I don't understand why anyone seeing this opinion should think this is somehow pro-EU and anti-UK.
Really, you can't see how someone employed by the EU could be pro-EU? Incredible. We are offering less EU 'rights', not less 'rights', surprisingly enough for a country that won't be in the EU. How many UK 'rights' are the EU offering?
