Am I correct in thinking we had him on trial and offered him a scholarship but he chose Reading instead?
Not quite, but good memory anyway:
Town Face Competition5th Dec 2005 02:50 Town are facing competition from Reading for the signature of promising young Icelandic striker Viktor Unnar Illugason. Both clubs want the 15-year-old to join their academy set-ups as a full-time scholar next summer.0

Phil, you memory aint what it used to be :P
We did have a Sigurdsson on trial, just wasn't Gylfi
Icelander on Trial14th Jul 2006 19:01 Iceland international Indridi Sigurdsson has joined the Blues on trial and will be going on the pre-season tour of Holland and Belgium. The low countries are familiar turf for the 24-year-old left-back or central defender who has been playing for Belgian side KRC Genk.0

I have to confess I had forgotten him, although I think the other poster was thinking about the Illugason/Sigurdsson story. Illugason never really came to much it appears.

Probably going to open up a can of worms here, I will watch the goal as he scores absolute beauties. Obviously he assists plenty too. Stat wise, plenty goals plenty assists for a mid. Superb passer of the ball too. Of that there is no doubt.
However, in terms of overall play he's in my opinion like Keith Andrews when with us. Not good enough CM in a 4-4-2 overall and needs to play in a 3.
Judging from how many good Icelandic players are about at the moment, its a shame Hermann wasn't a better scout
The academy had good links with Iceland a few years ago and we had a few scholars - as well as numerous trialists - but none of them ultimately made the grade.
