Trying to see all sides 16:30 - Oct 31 with 5829 viewssotd78

There are clearly now an entrenched group of Town fans (not really very many but certainly the most vocal) who want MM out whatever the situation. They strike me as the same mob that hounded out Magilton, and before that originally did not want Joe Royle. The same people who thought Keane was a God until they found out he had feet of clay.
In MM we have a dour, honest bloke; set a bit in his ways but relatively sure of what makes a good player and thus ultimately a decent team. Tactically at times he's not as clever as some but he's doing a half decent job with a bunch of journeymen footballers and the occasional golden nugget. A mix of solid, dependable, honest and industrious. Our entire squad cost less than most of the top six have spent in just, say, two years....
...changing the manager won't solve the problem. Only an injection of money linked to a plan for improvement year on year will do that. And there my friends is our problem - we have no one prepared to inject enough money consistently and over a relatively short period of time.... MM may well go; the mob may have its wish and maybe we'll get a magician who can do better with the same or less...don't bank on it.

How can anyone adamantly say that a change in manager and backroom staff won't drastically improve the squad, the way we play and potentially results?

MM has signed 78 players (all be it many loans). Only one of those permanent signings has gone on to play at a higher level in 6 seasons. There are managers out there who could vastly improve this and improve the fortunes of the team and the club. When MM got Wolves promoted he signed the following:

Freddy Eastwood 1.5m, Ebanks Blake 1.5m, Chris Iwelumo 500k and Richard Stearman 1.2m.

We've only spent 1.5m less (give or take) than that this season if you include Rowe in that given he was signed so late last season. If MM was given a further 1.5m, would we win the league? No.

We've spent under £2m this summer, so under half what Mick spent at Wolves. It's also a radically different market now, those players would be worth significantly more than those fees in today's market.

You could have added "How could anyone be so certain that splashing the cash will solve everything" Wasn't splashing the cash the undoing of both Burley & Magilton?

It feels to me like MM himself wants out now .

He probably thinks he has done all he can do here and his running battle with the fans shows he has had enough and needs a change .

Staying any longer here will do his reputation no good and do the club no good , he has done the job he was brought in to do , but it is surely time for both him and the club to try something different - it's all become very stale

My tally makes it nearer 3 million if Rowe is included although impossible to get an accurate reading. Huws is 1 million + but it was billed as a "multi-million" pound deal in most papers although that could be cut in many different ways. Garner for a million-ish and potentially rising and Waghorn rising up to a million (although MM denies this). Rowe a couple of hundred thousand.

Maybe those fees for those Wolves players were over inflated given they knew Wolves had some cash to spend as has happened to us in the past.

Name one specific person who wants MM out, hounded Magilton out, didn't want Joe Royle, thought Keane was a God and was apparently indifferent about Jewell (what a cunning omission).

You can't! That's the problem with generalising - you're ultimately talking sh*t.

"Changing the manager won't solve the problem" - what problem do you mean? Do you mean our worst finish in over 50 years? The fans booing him? His insistence in playing players out of position? Sitting on a 1-0 defeat until there's only 15 minutes left?

Because all of those problems can be solved with a new manager.

You've inflated every fee we've paid this summer, mate, as well as Rowe (closer to £100k I believe) who was signed last season. I can't believe you're comparing fees from nearly a decade ago to now as well when the market has moved on so much

It's not just the fans that you discribe, who want Mick to go, many loyal fans who support Town home and away, want him gone. They don't shout abuse or boo, they just support their team through thick and thin and will be glad when we finally move on. Whatever happens.
