This evening sky news are referring to the royal family as a "global brand !" We are citizens not consumers!

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."

Think technically we are subjects of the crown rather than citizens.

F*** be royal family and all who support them.

We ARE citizens, they ARE de facto a Global Brand used to sell British goods & services. When I say used, I mean used or even whored out.

In fact I'd assert Global Brand is a better way to think of them than Royal Family for a Republican stance of just about tolerating them.

God Save The Queen and all the £s she generates for the UK!

Your question back at you but other way around.

They cost each tax payer 67p PER ANNUM

https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/how-much-royal-family-cost-

https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2013/07/is-the-british-royal-f

Of course, we could scrap our financial support for Royal Family, privatize their protection etc. AND still have this income generated.

Whilst I will not claim to be an expert on anything other than London Private Hire Industry... if the Royal Family were to charge for their services promoting Britain around the world, going to public engagements etc. I dare say it'd cost a lot more than it does under present system. It the cost of the entire civil list that is the problem is it not?
It gets longer for little or no benefit

The “no benefit” presumably doesnt include the estimated £1.1bn of collateral economic benefit then.

Ahh, that old chestnut about 67p per person. This conveniently ignores huge ancillary costs, notably security & maintenance of palaces. The "income generated" by having a monarchy is impossible to prove (or disprove, for that matter).
However, the argument for abolition as far as I am concerned is not financial. It is more that the royal Family sit at the head of our anachronistic system of titles & privilege. If we stopped giving out ancient feudal titles like "Lord" and "Sir" (and "HRH", for that matter), which many people seem to crave, I would be less determined about abolition.

Sovereign Grant these days sir!

I can't be bothered to look too deeply, and will bow to your greater knowledge. The extended family all "work" to some degree don't they?

And the cost of their up keep pales into insignificance compared to The Houses of Parliament [Lords AND Commons]. Especially when one takes into account those in the HofL only need sign in and stay 15 minutes to collect £300 and there's loads more of them.

OK so Great Britain... outcrop of rocks in the Atlantic separated by 23 miles of sea from mainland Europe, rubbish weather, flat, etc. etc.

France & Italy both have Mediterranean Coastlines, warmer climates, mountains, winter resorts, on main land Europe accessible by road from neighbouring countries.

Don't think Republic v Monarchy argument cuts it when it comes to tourism do you?

Security and maintenance = providing employment, any way all fiscal figures can be massaged and manipulated for the purpose of whomever wishes to make a point.

From your "However" I whole heartedly agree... actually I agree financially also. Privatise the Royal Family... it's about the only privatization I'd support
