Ellis Harrison scores to put Town ahead at Rotherham. We win and have 4 points after 2 matches and sit in the playoffs.

Where would we be now? No panic of the first win, less players doubting themselves. We’d probably have won 2, drawn 3, lost 4 or thereabouts and sit much much comfort than we are now.

Really feel for Hurst. A bit of luck early on and we’d probably be where most expected. Instead plenty of the new signings seem to doubt they can do it and Paul seems to be panicking somewhat in unfamiliar terroritory to scrape out a win by any means.

If only we'd got that penalty against Rotherham.
If only Nsiala hadn't fallen foul of the ref at Hillsborough.
If only Jackson had looked up and squared the ball to Edwards against Brentford.

If, if, if... but you also make your own luck.

that is a clutching at straws post if ever there was one! If only in each of our games the opposition goalkeeper had been sent off and replaced by a sub goalkeeper who was also sent off.

if only Brexit was not going to happen .....

Mick had been backed in January 2015.....

Royle was allowed the £££ for Ricardo Fuller in 2006....

Who knows re the goal machine that is Ellis Harrison.

i'm certain that's transphobic. there's no reason at all why an aunt can't have balls.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

When we're repeatedly coming out the wrong side of the fine margins, when does it become the fact we're simply not quite good enough?

I said a few weeks back that that defeat at Rotherham is going to be the one we look back on as an absolute shocker - could be job defining for Hurst

If only Harrison had scored against West Ham - the header that hit the post - and therefore gone into the season with confidence sky high.

If only PH had looked at that team against West Ham and had more faith in the youngsters, instead of jettisoning them rather quickly.

If only Jack Ross had said yes?

Jack Ross said "yes" to what?

ME didn't offer him the job, he waited for Hurst to be finished in the POs with Shrewsbury. In the meantime, Sunderland came in and offered him the job.

This really is clutching at straws.

The underlying problem is the players (Harrison in your example) is probably not good enough. Would our strikers last year, or Pitman have scored it?

However, I agree, a bit of luck we might have had a win. However, we had luck against Blackburn on the first game with the last minute goal. We had luck against Exeter in the league Cup (Jackson's goal). We have had some luck as well.

So clever with your logic

If we had hired Jack Ross then. Happy?

You're not wrong re: luck and getting stuck in a rut.

But you can balance that by arguing the same happened to Keane in the first game of his first full season. We were all over Coventry but for a little wayward finishing from us and Clinton Morrison scoring two great goals from the only two half-chances they had. Then there were the late equalizers that we let in further on in the winless run. While that season may have turned out differently, this is what managers are paid to sort out — capitalising on the good stuff and limiting the bad to get results.

I think Hurst might be able to turn it around and re-write the narrative but ultimately halting or indeed not even starting these runs sorts the better managers from the rest.

I had us down as 20th.

I will bite your hands off that.

Why does predicting 16th make people sensible?

Name me the eight worse sides than us, to come 17-24.

That's a challenge and a half.
