There was that all-important win and, more signifcantly, a decent performance from a functioning team. It doesn't answer all the questions, but it does show some signs of the progress we were looking for. Has probably saved Hurst his job for the time being.
With regard to the off-field stuff, who knows? There were so many reports from normally reliable people, can't help thinking there was something in parts of it. But situations may have settled down as tension subsides somewhat. Or merely gone quiet while people wait to see what happens next. |  |

Most of us didn't want to be negative. But lack of results, apparent lack of effective tactics and organisation, reports of off-field strife and so on - but above all an absence of any cause for optimism - led to a conclusion that things could be irrepairably broken.
We did not revel in Hurst's failure. It did not make us happy to see the team struggling. We were keen to see things turn around.
Thus we are glad when there is, at last, some evidence of an improvement. | |

As others have said, the backroom angst was posted by plenty of posters who don't usually make stuff up - I certainly heard it first-hand from someone in the dressing room.
