Very astute. I'm sure it's not just lip-service either - he is aware of our history/tradition and wants to embrace it. Interesting, also, that the news has come from TB rather than Lambert himself. It's all just sounding so much more positive - let's hope we can make up for the time lost on the failed project between now and the end of the season.

Who needs a DoF on 15:55 - Nov 6 with 1510 views | chicoazul | Interesting that all the chatter about we need a DoF has gone away since Lambert arrived, and he is only 5 years older than Hurst (despite looking about 20 years older but thats Glaswegians for you) and managed fewer games. The bottom line is if you go down the Manager roue, then you need to pick the right one.

Problem with this approach is that it is putting all eggs in one basket, some form of Sporting Director is required in my view; even if they have a smaller job spec with an experienced manager in place

The problem then is if you appoint a plum of a DoF. One very big egg in one basket. It's an odd one, not sure where I stand on it.

Back in your box, Methuselah. We have enough pencil pushers without you vying for a comeback.

What we want to make sure is that we avoid having a J2Blue style egg in any basket.

Who needs a DoF on 20:33 - Nov 6 with 1067 views | xrayspecs | It is a good approach. A lot of managers do this, especially when new in role. It is all about picking the brains of those who understand football, who have watched the team regularly and may well have an inside track.
