The funniest thing about this board 19:32 - Jan 1 with 2489 viewsCheltenham_Blue

Is that even after 11 years, in which we appointed 5 managers.

Three of which were abject failures, one who wasn't backed when he could of got us promoted and one too early to tell, that a few of you still think this is the managers fault.

Keane promoted from Championship
Jewell promotes from Championship
McCarthy promoted from Championship
Hurst massive success at every club
Lambert promoted from Championship

Keane not managed since
Jewell not managed since
McCarthy didn’t seem to be in high demand for some time
Hurst has not got another job yet

Evans consistently turns successful managers into damaged goods. Can’t ignore the trend and longer.

Overlooked that one as he went on to QPR but even that lasted 5 minutes.

So a good manager is a manager who has bag loads of money to spend? MM did a fantastic job on a budget, but that is what he is good at. The others would only be good managers if they had more money to spend? I think that is what you are saying.

Which of those appointments did you disagree with at the time?

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Openly suspicious of Keane, indifferent to Jewell, recognised that Mick was the best man for the job at the time, cautiously welcoming to Hurst and 'well, at least he's not that shortarsed incompetent' about Lambert.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

That’s the thing. Bad appointments would be easily explained.

We could make a case for taking good managers that have succeeded elsewhere and putting them into an environment where they fail and become damaged goods.

Joe Royle managed a promotion I believe.

Is the common theme, since relegation from the premiership, Ipswich have not been able to sufficiently compete financially with other clubs?

And that is not a function of how much money Ipswich has, but how much money other teams have?

In fairness though we were able to financially compete in ME's early years, the spending under Magilton, Keane and Jewell was amongst some of the highest in the division. They just spent it badly.

Keane and Jewell were backed but were both terrible.

If you are honest about Magilton there was barely a handful battling against the tide on here standing up for him at his end.

Most of this board wanted him gone.

The funniest thing about this board at times is the way some will twist history to suit their latest viewpoints.

Yea that is the case.

I sometimes think, in hindsight, the worst decision was ME keeping Magilton as soon as he took over.

I say that as someone that really liked Magilton.

That was the time we had most comparative resource, but with an inexperienced manager.

Oh well.

Maybe, but given Evans’s strike rate so far, his choice would probably have taken Town from Top 6 in November 2007 to mid-table by season’s end followed by a relegation battle,

Not sure that was necessarily a problem, giving Magilton a load of money to spend with no control over how it was spent was. The squad needed incremental improvement not a glut of central midfielders.

Still, good thing Evans learnt from that one isn't it.

Hahahaha this is fantastic and is a Seinfeld-level bit of insight. A million upvotes.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
