It'll happen. May will batter her deal through whether anyone wants it or not. Democracy is alive and well in the UK.

In honesty, i can imagine that we may get a situation where May’s deal will pass but only on the basis it will have to be agreed by a referendum. But, i still stand by my previous comment. None of us have a clue what is actually going to happen, it’s a farce.

Breaded is healthier than batter though, surely money will talk. Although steamed is healthier still but you only seem to get that in New Zealand...does anyone know of any good chippies in Portugal?

Brexit is not going to happen (n/t) on 08:49 - Mar 14 with 3526 views | ghostofescobar | But we want to "take back control" and give that control to........this lot of shysters! This bunch of self serving, expense fiddling, two faced, spineless, lying shysters. Peoples Vote is the only way forward now. Parliament can't decide, so the public must do it for them.

Get over what you numpty? Expert political commentators can’t predict what is going to happen. The democratic process appears to have stalled. You, like everybody, don’t have a clue what will happen now. Get over it. Just out of interest. That's a distinct possibility. Under the banner of democracy she'll batter us out of Europe, but not for long. On leaving Europe there'll be chaos at customs with basic supplies (foodstuffs and medicines) not getting into the country. There'll be chaos in society as a result. May, if she hasn't already stepped down, will resign and a General Election will be called. The democracy loving masses will start saying stupid stuff like "we don't deserve a democracy". The new government will win on a "back in Europe" ticket and things will improve again. The electorate with feel appropriately chastised, Remainers and Brexiteers will hate each other for decades to come and we'll thank our leaders for pulling us out of the mess we got ourselves into. We the people are sovereign, not parliament, but that will change if not in law but as a generally accepted belief. Job done. Brexit never happened. Less power to the people. Long live democracy. What kind of democracy would you have if goverment choose to ignore 17 million voters. You would alienate them all into potentially not voting in a future general election. Any future result with say only a 30% turn out( for arguments sake) would be a farce.

A democracy that acknowledged the 43 million who did not want to be bullied into a catastrophic course of action?

That's the crux of the issue. The illusion of democracy must be maintained at all costs. In other countries where the "democracy" has been busted, it's no longer an issue. Over there in the UK, we (I'm British) have very clever leaders who continue to keep the myth alive. FWIW, I still think a mythical democracy is better than no pretence at democracy at all.

Agreed. In hindsight that's the source of all May's and the government's problems. Instead of adopting an almost hard-line Brexiteer rhetoric from the start they could have talked compromise and reconciliation from the start that would have been far closer to the deal she's now saying is the best deal. But instead her no deal threats and red lines helped create battlelines for everyone even within her own party. She and her Brexit clowns have had over 2 and a half years to sell in a plan and deliver on the referendum while not punishing the rest of the country. But she was just too focused on herself and her party rather than the other 65 million people who share this problem.
