After a £71m win I am sure the normal things become a bit boring after a while so let's face it, you can never really discount anything can you.

Celebrating with a takeaway pizza and spicy wings ffs. That's an oxymoron anyway.

that lottery on 14:30 - Apr 2 with 2473 views | J2BLUE | He seems a right cock based on his interview in one of the papers. I predict next time we hear of him it will be because his staff work 45 hour weeks for minimum wage. I would love to win £71m. I would give £65m away, minimum.

There is a debate to be had there in some ways. I remember when the national lottery launched the idea of scooping a couple of million was mind blowing. Whilst it is still a lot of money now the attitude towards a jack "only being a few million" is quite indicative to how the value of money has changed. I reckon we will get to our 70s and 80s and by that time 10m will seem like a low payday for some, so maybe your early thoughts of an acceptable sum for philanthropy might be quite ambitious by the time our races have been run.

that lottery on 14:41 - Apr 2 with 2391 views | TIB | Does anyone actually know anyone that's won the lottery? Me and work colleagues were discussing it this morning and the conclusion was these winners are just lizard people posing with cheques trolling us humans to give us a glimmer of hope that one day we can dine on chicken wings and Italian beer. I have never known anyone to win any of the lottery draws, jackpots that is, though I do know someone that scooped £100k on a scratch card.

All I want is my freedom. The rest would be given away. I would have £6m in my example. No desire to live in a mansion or drive a Ferrari. £500,000 house £1,000,000 cash in the bank £4,000,000 invested to produce an income £500,000 in hard assets like gold In your example asset prices would rise as well. So would dividends. I have no desire whatsoever to spend millions a year. £120,000 a year after tax would be lovely (adjusted for inflation each year).

I'd want to get a little property portfolio around the world - nice apartments in New York, London, a nice apartment somewhere hot all year round like Dubai and a proper holiday home in somewhere I like like Cyprus. Also £500k wouldn't get a nice enough home in Ipswich for me, would need to at least double that, plus probably another £500k to get it exactly where I wanted it/ That is probably £30-40m gone, but invested in reality.

It is really odd, i'm not saying this to poo all over your future financial planning. I share the idea of not wanting to live in a mansion or drive a Ferrari- but a curious thing happens with some people that when the bar raises on what they can afford, what was once an affluent desire suddenly becomes an affordable one. I know when I started work i pas paid £4 an hour at Sainsburys and didn't feel i was missing out on a life style worth £10p/h. Then I got a job on £32k a year and my ideas of affluence changed with it; to the point I earn what I do now and things I once thought I would never want feels like things I would be deprived on if I had to live on them now. Money is a funny old thing but it does seem the more we get our ideas of affluence and luxury seem to depreciate soon after and gets replace by other things. [Post edited 2 Apr 2019 14:54]

My mate divorced his wife and within a very short time she won £250k, Lady Lucans aunt won £40,000 on a scratch card and blew it in weeks and was then found lodging and hiding in The Haven. I think that's about it.

To be honest I inflated the house bit. I often have a little look on Right Move. I want to end up back on Broke Hall where I grew up. My dreams are modest. I'll make it one day BackToRussia
