It's a huge fire. The roof was wooden, probably very dry and went up extremely quickly. It's now all fallen into the church, so is difficult to get to. |  |

Makes you wonder what preventative measures were in place - you'd have thought the most stringent possible with no expense spared - but guessing any sprinkler system no match for the ferocity. |  |

Horrible to see. It’s (was) an amazing building. Given it’s Notre Dame surely they’ll rebuild it, and presumably the stone work will largely be ok. Not to take away from that bit of history, but hopefully it’ll be back to it’s former glory one day. |  |

Speculating here but, it may be lead workers or roofers doing a hot melt. They would be highly likely to have inflammable items and welding gear on the go.

Dunno yet of course and unfair to speculate, but it did crop up on the radio earlier how old buildings are under more risk whilst renovation is going on.
Terrible shame. Hope enough of the main structure is saved to rebuild. |  |
