Had his season long loan to Paul Hurst’s Shrewsbury terminated as he couldn’t force his way into the side. He mad 0 appearances. Seems crazy.

Things change quickly in football so don’t write players off too quickly.

Probably a bit of a similarity in circumstances to Jack Marriott. Needed to get his head on straight and a boot up his bum to realise his potential

Am I the only one looking at this deal and wondering WTF Man U are doing spending £18m on a player with half of a decent season in the Championship?

Seems an odd signing for a club with the aspirations Man U have.

Not really that odd, all the big clubs should be signing young talent to supplement their bigger signings.

Agree, but I'm really not sure he's that good just lightning quick.

You might have said the same about Ryan Fraser four years ago, Premiership clubs usually have a nose for who will add the rest of the technical skills at the highest level into their game as they adapt.

Ryan Fraser’s being linked with Arsenal now after 3 seasons as a Premier League regular, whereas James is at a top club after 1/2 a season in the Championship so it isn’t that comparable

Don’t forget Sir Bobby let Paul Gascogne go as he didn’t think he’d make the grade.

Presumably they had no scouts watching when Swansea rolled up to Portman Road the other month. He certainly didn’t look a multi million pound player that day

The story I heard from the proverbial son of the friend of a steward....

It was Bobby Ferguson who rejected Gazza, Robson didn't get to see him in action.

The trialists got changed and filtered out to the training pitch, with most getting into an impromptu kick about. The then shy & retiring Gazza, was stood at the side.

Ferguson said; "What do you think you are doing?
Gazza replied; "Waiting for someone to tell me what to do."
Ferguson; "If you need to be told then you can fckff and get changed again"

However, I have never read Gazza or Robson's books covering the episode, so have never read definitive proof that the above story is untrue... I prefer the above as it leaves Robson clean in this instance... Ian Rush, however, different story, that was Robson. Wasn't it?

I’ve seen a lot of him. His transformation this season has been phenomenal. IF he can carry on improving at this rate, he’ll be ok. A big if, of course.

I think it is a sign of where Man U are shopping now. Very difficult to attract the very top players when you are not in the Champions League.

Also, I think the idea there was little more than pace to him might have been levelled at Bale at the same stage of his career.

It's loose change to them so worth a gamble, I also suspect Giggs may have had some input. Better to buy young with a view to improving.
