I think you'll find the government has requisitioned the available stocks.

They did this the last time, with the Swine flu, too.

It's odd, because masks are not very effective - people tend to take them off to sneeze, for example.

But it's quite alarming, nonetheless.

I wonder how masks would work with facial recognition cameras - and should muslim women wearing a niqab wear one of these masks as well or are they already protected....................as best as can be, that is ?

What about a bee keepers hat, one of them would certainly protect you against infected bees.

Maybe the government could issue some kind of advice to reassure folk and remove all the fear

My eldest lives in a private student halls in London and has been told one of the other residents has returned from Wuhan and to “take precautions”... needless to say masks (for what good they’ll do) are unavailable everywhere...

To be fair they can't do any harm. If the Chinese stopped gobbing greenies all the time and everywhere it might be a bit safer.

Filthy habit - I hate it.

Yeah, like you say, if you lived close to an outbreak you're going to wear one aren't you, on the off-chance it might just help.

There's clearly a market there for better masks that can filter out infection.

I hate it when stevedores do that. They spit all over the deck. I am often found shouting at them. I have even told one that could understand English that I would roll him around on the deck to mop it up.

They used to do it all the time in restaurants - right on the floor while sitting next to you, they seem to have got better over the years and largely limit themselves to outside - although Karaoke rooms still get some chunder.
