Best vegetable 13:51 - Feb 24 with 17468 viewsDubtractor

Seems like this is a vegetable kind of day. So which is the best one?

I'm going for cabbage. Specifically Savoy cabbage, steamed, with lots of salt and pepper. Finely sliced before steaming btw.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Cabbage is great but a day like today has me yearning for roasted parsnip.

I like a bit of cabbage but I think overall I like crunchy spring greens.

Anyone who suggests parsnips, carrots, swedes or tunips needs to have a word with themselves.

There is, you'll agree, a certain 'je ne sais quoi' oh so very special about a firm, young carrot.

Love cabbage, but I will have to go for the humble sprout. I do love a sprout. Got to be sprouts.

Parsnips roasted to ‘crunch’ level reduces the stringy texture. Sublime.

Purple sprouting broccoli

Stir fried with sesame seeds, oil, soy, chilli, ginger or just steamed and served with salt, pepper and butter.

Depends on definition of "best" ...

For yumminess - parsnip - sweet n lovely.

For versatility, health & ease of growing - spring onions :)

A big shout out to the humble leek.

Asparagus a close second.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Leeks and cabbage sliced and fried in butter/oil is a staple, everyone will eat it, and goes with most things. Add garlic, and fresh parsley and drop of white wine, depending on who yer feeding.

Asparagus is the correct answer. All other vegetables wish they could be asparagus.

P.S. A leek is also a plumber's favourite vegetable.

Call yourself Herbers. Tsk.

Raw or gently cooked, eaten on its own or with butter or vinaigrette, dipped in eggs, in a quiche, in a salad, as soup, stir fried with pretty much anything, etc...

Whenever the favourite veg debate surfaces, we always exclude potatoes, cos, well they make crisps and chips and filthy stuff.
