I am pretty much convinced now... on 09:11 - Mar 8 by BanksterDebtSlave | Well luckily for us all every scientific fact about this virus is available via rolling media coverage! As an aside....You not surprised that at least some African nations aren't in full melt down yet considering how much of a Chinese presence there is in many nations? Any thoughts on why Italy would have it so bad....relatively speaking? Ps....you imagining conspiracy theories when none is being pushed, like yesterday's thread, will not help your blood pressure either! [Post edited 8 Mar 2020 9:13]

You;re doing it again. Yesterday, when challenged, you claimed the only point you were making is that the Chinese state cant be trusted to report accurately. Then you threw in innuendo about Africa which you have no repeated. Set out your assertion or feck off. This endless innuendo is embarrassing, disingenuous, and far more likely to create false panic and fear than anything else.

I am pretty much convinced now... on 09:14 - Mar 8 by GaryCooper | The country could, with the current level of hype and panic grin to a standstill, this would kill far more than the virus, the economy could suffer huge damage all due to fear, fear which you are perpetuating, please stop. |
What level of fear and panic? Vast majority are going about their business in the usual way. I am sure some will over react- but what has that to do with people stating facts and seeking to hold you to the same?

My occasional interactions with the wider public would strongly suggest that a highly exaggerated sense of fear is coming from somewhere....thank goodness the media isn't having to deal with Brexit too....people would be jumping out of buildings!

Its the only shot available- because youa re once again throwing innuendo around, whilst being coy about what you actually mean. Its extraordinary behaviour from a grown up. You can't complain about cheap shots, when people are having to try to guess what crappy point you are angling at from vague insinuations.

The innuendo is that you dont actually say what youa re claiming or asserting. You do it time and time again. If your point is that the virus could be more widespread than is currently apparent- noone is going to disagree with you. Its obvious and trite. And not remotely suggestive of some nudge nudge wink conspiracy of media. But its taken 24 hours and 3 pages to actually figure out if that is your point. I fully expect you now to suggest something eelse is going on which people are all too easily led to have thought about.

The main concern, for me, is the fact that they don’t have any idea , in the United Stated, of the full extent of the problem. Take Florida for example 2 deaths and less than 20 reported cases and they don’t know how half of them caught it.

I am pretty much convinced now... on 09:55 - Mar 8 with 1798 views | pointofblue | I’m wondering whether this is being blown out of proportion is the article on the BBC site which states that the death rate is actually unknown. Whilst it may increase due to those who are being treated passing on due to the infection it may also be lower as people could be carrying it without any symptoms coming to the fore, or very mild symptoms which are dismissed as something else. Not enough is known about it at the moment which is why the reaction is at the level it is. If more knowledge is attained and/or a vaccine is developed then the panic levels will decrease. I really don’t think 24/7 news is helping though, especially those who have hypochondria and anxiety issues. [Post edited 8 Mar 2020 10:04]

Would you suggest that people aren't warned and should go about the things they do completely as usual? Do you not think the steps that have been taken should be taken? Isolation in some cases, the emphasis on hand-washing? If your only complaint is the media it's not exactly news to anyone that the main, current and biggest stories are going to dominate. The people who over-react will do so at anything and the loo roll scenario would probably be the same if nuclear war was the perceived threat of the day. Most really are just getting along with normal stuff, but as someone who hates people who don't wash their hands enough, I'm all for a bit of extra encouragement.

I'm not sure I do agree with you and to be honest I read it the same way that Spark read it. I think you've changed your argument hence you are more aligned with my opinion. I think the numbers are far higher everywhere because there is a lag in testing as it doesn't start until symptoms are shown and by then someone has had if for up to 2 weeks. There also aren't enough tests to test everyone. You can simulate it using a Simple Moving Average (SMA) if you are interested in seeing how the lag works. SB

How anybody can read the op and think I am saying more than "I do not think the virus is as contained as the media would like to pretend" and "some of the side effects of this are mildly amusing" (reporting that the live streaming Pope has a slight cold) is honestly beyond me.
