...that Coronavirus mostly only rears its ugly head on cruise ships. Other than that, especially in China, it is largely contained. In other breaking news the Pope has a cold.
But who knows what I really mean?

I'm actually a bit annoyed by this now.

My response is totally clear in that thread along with the evidence behind why I said it. You are being disingenuous.

You have accused me of being selective in defending against fake news and unscientific posts but all you can point to is a single post in a thread ages ago where I was clear in my position. You've held that up as an equivalence to the many threads where I try and tackle fake news and woo. It's a ridiculous position to take, especially as you only entered this thread to make this argument.

You've still not contributed anything to this thread.

To be honest you can do one. You're a nasty piece of work with a clear agenda and contribute very little to the forum.

I'm a nasty piece of work because i call out your hypocrisy?
Ahhh, the usual bully boy tactics it is then.

Look, if you look at that thread and what you said, you said the following -

"You're not really being fair here. Having a Jewish population is totally different to not wanting a Jewish state in the region.

People actually in charge in Iran have stated numerous times that they don't want Israel to exist. Your article in no way counters the position posted."

A Jew free Middle East means just that and that is what he stated, he didn't say a Middle East free from a Jewish state.

It's fake news and you defended it.

Please identify non facts that have been propogated by the BBC.

It is the allowance of preppers to voice opinions, the BBC allows this.
The BBC opens it's 1800hrs bulletin with the headline a man who had underlying health problems tested positive for Coronavirus, they do not know what he died of, it should not be a released story, lap up it if you wish.

You are a nasty piece of work because almost every post in this thread by you is actively dishonest. You then accused someone of something, which patently wasn't true- and doubled down on it.

Embarrassing.

Careful, you two might not be able to get yourself out of that hole the way it's going, still got time though.

Here your chance to climb out -

"Then we have Iraq, Iran, Syria etc who want a Jew free Middle East."

It's not true though is it?

Or are you saying it is true?

Now who could defend such a false statement?

Seriously, I clarified the statement what I took that statement to mean earlier in this thread and also in that thread. You are dishonest and disingenuous.

Because you only care about that and a few other subjects you've attempted to derail this thread. The fact you think a single statement which you've interpreted one way is an equivalence to many other threads and posts I've made on many subjects is totally pathetic.

You've still contributed nothing of value to the thread.

You're a nasty piece of work who adds nothing to the debate.

There is clearly ample reason for anyone to be concerned. Wherever you look the numbers are going up daily, and in the UK we are a bit behind the curve.

Yesterday the total number of deaths in Italy from this was 233. That figure has gone up to 366 in just 24 hours.

I haven't tried to derail this thread and for the record i'm as worried as the next person about the Corona virus and firmly believe that we should listen to those that know best, ie the experts.

However, are you actually now saying that you mistook the original statement made re Iraq, Syria, Iran, etc?

With that in mind, do you now acknowledge then that the statement he made is false?

But again, this doesn't make any difference to me personally.

What exactly are you and GC actually proposing?

You both seem to be annoyed that the coverage is too much, but instead of actually saying that and offering something else, it's just getting repeated.

You're saying what you don't want, but not what you actually want to happen.

We can all wish the thing would go away but that's not facing up to things at all.

Is the proposal that is might all go away if everyone shuts up about it?

I don't think it is controversial to point out that fear/sensationalism sells/increases viewers/hits....similarly governments never miss a good crisis to implement more laws and big business is always after more free money off the money tree.($50 B out of this so far I think)
Maybe if they stuck to reporting what has actually happened rather than speculating on what might happen that would actually fit the definition of news. There was a Sky report earlier and in the background a South Korean fat bloke was getting chest compressions as he was hauled from the back of an ambulance ona stretcher....shameless stuff reallym

Some people may find your humour funny, but I am definitely not one of them. 130 families in Italy today are coming to terms with the loss of a loved one. Maybe you might want to think about that for a second.

This actually is a pretty serious situation - the idea that people shouldn't consider what might happen, and not report on what might be coming is bizarre and misguided.

Italy has pretty much cordoned off a chunk of its own country.

That's a fact, not scaremongering.

Should that be kept under wraps likes some authoritarian means of governing?

The difference between the virus and road deaths is that 130 road deaths today won't transfer to another 200 tomorrow and another 300 the day after.....and so on and so on.

I've read a few of your threads on this subject and as per normal you are coming across as a man in his mid to late fifties trying to act cool and edgy like a 6th form protester.

Because of your flippant replies. You seem to be back tracking all the way through this thread. You started off trying to be funny, thinking people would laugh with you. As soon as you realised that you were actually being a bit of a d1ck, you started to apologies and try to wriggle your way through it. People are dying because of this virus. Yes, people die every day from all sort of illness' and accidents, but nobody should try and make fun of it. This is a very real threat to an awful lot of people and if you want to make light of it, then you carry on, but don't be surprised if some find it in bad taste. Nobody needs to panic, just be sensible.

It appears that a lot of news these days is about things that might happen.
So another example of sensationalism .....I wonder what proportion of deaths have been on cruise ships and how that compares with the percentage of news hours they have occupied.

You're just coming across as thick here, I'm really, really sorry to say that, because quite often you're entertaining, and even occasionally insightful. But here just really, really, really thick.

The death rate or infection rate now is not relevant. The challenge is that the infection rate is doubling every 4/5 days. About 10% of cases in Italy involve hospitalisation and significant care. This means that after mid April, (unless there is a miraculous change in the way the virus transmits/behaves as it gets warmer) healthcare systems across the world are going to be over-run, unable to deal with anything other than coronavirus patients.

People needing life-saving cancer treatment will have to wait, people having complications in childbirth won't get the care they need, there will be no space in hospitals for the routine operations that make lives better on a daily basis. On top of that, healthcare professionals will be working in dreadful conditions. Care systems for the elderly will likely break down, vulnerable people in society will be ignored and forgotten about. This will likely be happening across much of the world.

If you don't think that's a big deal, or you don't want to hear about it because you don't think it will affect you, or you think it's just some kind of trick the media is playing on us, then it's you who has lost all sense of perspective.
