I am pretty much convinced now... 20:29 - Mar 7 with 20262 views | BanksterDebtSlave | ...that Coronavirus mostly only rears its ugly head on cruise ships. Other than that, especially in China, it is largely contained. In other breaking news the Pope has a cold. But who knows what I really mean? Brass Eye....eat your heart out.

Well strangely enough I wrote that while walking the mutt.....clear sky, almost full moon....get out there folks, find an open space and soak it up.

I am pretty much convinced now... on 17:17 - Mar 8 by GaryCooper | It is the allowance of preppers to voice opinions, the BBC allows this. The BBC opens it's 1800hrs bulletin with the headline a man who had underlying health problems tested positive for Coronavirus, they do not know what he died of, it should not be a released story, lap up it if you wish. Keep stock pilling your pasta as Italy is the only country that makes it! Fools. |
If I had my way all comments would be vetted on all platforms before being allowed into the public domain, so not too many arguments there. But it's one thing to be irritated by other people's stupidity, and quite another to lash out at others thinking they're somehow condoning the same behaviour because they disagree with, say, news censorship.

I am pretty much convinced now... on 18:42 - Mar 8 by jeera | Italy has pretty much cordoned off a chunk of its own country. That's a fact, not scaremongering. Should that be kept under wraps likes some authoritarian means of governing? As an example. |
No but it was leaked and reported before it happened causing people to leg it and likely spread the virus quicker and further.

I am pretty much convinced now... on 18:54 - Mar 8 by gordon | You're just coming across as thick here, I'm really, really sorry to say that, because quite often you're entertaining, and even occasionally insightful. But here just really, really, really thick. The death rate or infection rate now is not relevant. The challenge is that the infection rate is doubling every 4/5 days. About 10% of cases in Italy involve hospitalisation and significant care. This means that after mid April, (unless there is a miraculous change in the way the virus transmits/behaves as it gets warmer) healthcare systems across the world are going to be over-run, unable to deal with anything other than coronavirus patients. People needing life-saving cancer treatment will have to wait, people having complications in childbirth won't get the care they need, there will be no space in hospitals for the routine operations that make lives better on a daily basis. On top of that, healthcare professionals will be working in dreadful conditions. Care systems for the elderly will likely break down, vulnerable people in society will be ignored and forgotten about. This will likely be happening across much of the world. If you don't think that's a big deal, or you don't want to hear about it because you don't think it will affect you, or you think it's just some kind of trick the media is playing on us, then it's you who has lost all sense of perspective. |
I'm probably wrong, but just in case he is one of them, different people obviously have different ways of coping with potential threat - some of them a bit strange, but gallows humour, sticking hands in ears going "la-la-la", or other diversionary tactics, aren't too unusual.

I am pretty much convinced now... on 18:42 - Mar 8 by GlasgowBlue | The difference between the virus and road deaths is that 130 road deaths today won't transfer to another 200 tomorrow and another 300 the day after.....and so on and so on. I've read a few of your threads on this subject and as per normal you are coming across as a man in his mid to late fifties trying to act cool and edgy like a 6th form protester. |

I am pretty much convinced now... on 18:45 - Mar 8 by Pecker | Because of your flippant replies. You seem to be back tracking all the way through this thread. You started off trying to be funny, thinking people would laugh with you. As soon as you realised that you were actually being a bit of a d1ck, you started to apologies and try to wriggle your way through it. People are dying because of this virus. Yes, people die every day from all sort of illness' and accidents, but nobody should try and make fun of it. This is a very real threat to an awful lot of people and if you want to make light of it, then you carry on, but don't be surprised if some find it in bad taste. Nobody needs to panic, just be sensible. |

Yes but that would down to someone who jumped the gun and leaked the news. That's not the same thing at all. That has nothing to do with say, Stokie, or Sparks or anyone else who's copped a bit of unnecessary flack has it? In fact, it's pretty much irrelevant to the point of reporting in general. That's an individual and not mainstream reporting.* Just to add, a police officer friend of my sister's said right at the beginning of all this that [she shouldn't say anything but] this is going to be bigger than people realise. Why the feck she thought she was in some position of authority on the subject more than someone on checkouts in Tesco I've no idea. An everyday copper isn't a biologist nor privy to an awful lot, one would have thought. Now that is scaremongering you could say. That she was right is another matter. *Edit: slight addition. So ignoring the first and last paragraphs what makes you think I am not aware of any of that? My issue is that with the media on full ramp so early in the process and the associated frenzy it is inducing where will they go when the crap really hits the fan. If and when that stuff happens would be the time to report it....I am not sure how the daily....oh no look how many more people died thing really helps...In fact wasn't it the W.H.O. that wanted weekly reporting?

What you and GC seem to want is censorship. I can't go for that, no way. People have a right to access news. How they deal with it is another matter and people, generally speaking, are fecking stupid.

Speaking for myself I would go with news....being the reporting of things that have happened (including daily death tallies as it happens)....but not sensationalism (eg the cruise liner 'plague ships')....so pretty much agree I think.

Ploease direct us to a credible news source routinely using the phrase "plague ships".
| The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.

No. I would suggest that with a low number of cases in the UK at the time, any Brits who were on cruise ships or in hotels abroad where Coronavirus was found received coverage from UK media outlets. When the virus becomes more widespread in the UK and we all know somebody who has had the virus then we will see less coverage of Brits on holiday affected by it. It really isn't that hard is it?
