I am not entirely comfortable with people deciding they know better that the government experts based on a few facts they found online, many of which won't be true and thus taking things into their own hands.
Seems people only listen to experts who agree with them. Perhaps they are right and we should have self-isolated sooner but this will force the closure of schools and prevent lots of healthcare professionals going to work where they are needed.

I think this is more a case of smiling through the tears, Stokie. Better to let people vent a bit and calm down rather than stretch your sail fully tied down in a force ten and then watch it get ripped to shreds.

Perhaps they are listening to all of the other experts....that health care line is bullcrap by the way....and it would not have to be the occasional grandparent that had to help out here and there. #commonsensetrumpsgovernmentbs

Actually, common sense is almost invariably not the same as expert advice.
A) It's in the name "expert" B) Key knowledge and insight is frequently counter-intuitive
There will be time to analyse and perhaps criticise the government's advice. But how the UK should respond is a massively complicated question that may also change with evidence.
But that shouldn't be ignored by Joe Public because frankly the chances are they're even more wrong and are weakening or sabotaging any response.

So I was right, you only listen to experts that agree with what you've decided already.
Common sense doesn't trump advice just because you don't like it. Your attitude isn't that far removed from brexiteers that were heavily and rightly criticised.
There will be plenty of time to criticise and analyse the government actions. Ignoring them now is only going to create more chaos. Things need to be coordinated.

Yep, very true DK - although - there is currently no consensus amongst said experts.
I listened to something on the radio about that letter and it's not actually from scientists in the field - it even says it in the article:
"though no leading experts in the science of the spread of diseases"
So whilst their concerns should be listened to, I don't think they should be held up as an example of not listening to experts given their specialities. You wouldn't ask an economist how to perform open heart surgery.
You are generally right though, there is no consensus even amongst virologists which makes things harder.

Is that boaty thing a metaphor brcause i like it.
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

So maybe the data should be shared with all the experts telling them they are wrong.....testing people more might help too!!

What is the data set they are using 're who can help with child care while I carry on nursing? Sometimes Stokie you are so compliant it hurts..
"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
And the communication has been appalling - I think that's having the biggest effect on people. In the case of little information, people are going to understandably look elsewhere. Which is why so many organisations are cancelling events, universities are stopping teaching, workplaces are selectively opting to work from home, etc. All contrary to the limited advice given here to carry on as normal unless showing symptoms, but aligned to advice fro organisations like the WHO and the steer from other countries (informed by their own medical advice).
Get the comms right and things will seem better. Hopefully that will now start with daily briefings (should have been doing these 2 weeks ago).

What does that have to do with my post? My post clearly says there will be time to analyse and criticise the government response - how is that compliant. I take complaint to mean disagree with you.
You are so anti-establishment and looking for the angle that you don't engage with the actual facts.
You are a good egg but I feel you've had a bit of a mare with regards to Covid 19.

This is a good point - the communication has been poor.
Let's see how the daily press conference goes today.

It's a bit like that leaked report saying that it could last until next spring. Within that report it probably also said something along the lines that the best case scenario is two months.
But they only feel fit to scare people
“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.”
Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.
That is interesting but I have to say from my limited experience of getting (sort of) shipwrecked on the Isle of Man that sails are fine when the breeze is firm but very disappointing when the wind drops and utterly frightening when a gale blows.
I am going to have a read of that article though, a hybrid approach could be viable. Let's see if Newcy picks this up.

My confidence in the Government advisers was somewhat shaken when one stated that a sufferer in a football crowd would infect at most two or three others (the global averge in all situations) rather than the more obvious risk of close contact with maybe hundreds of others.
Either very loose thinking on the application of statistics, or a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of a football stand concourse. Neither of which is a good thing.

We will see....also regarding NHS workers..how reassuring is it that with our Governments extensive testing regime we know that school kids are not infecting their nursing parents before they pop around their wards. But I'm no expert so probably shouldn't think too hard about it. You're a good egg too Stokie!

I didn't hear that - does seem a rather naive analysis.
