Until today I've been quite jokey about people stockpiling food and supplies.
If you're trying to make sanitizer with vodka which is too weak to work then sorry, you're an idiot, you read another idiot online, your problem.
But today I saw someone take literally all of the baby formula from our shelves (absolutely loads) and when a young mother holding her baby asked if she could.maybe have one or two the other told.her no.
We cant behave like this. I'm not saying we should go to a system of rationing but if people keep on with this behaviour we will have riots.
Very soon.

How grim can we be. Don’t do this.

It is British, less airmiles than Olive oil, higher smoke capacity so better than olive oil for cooking, lovely colour when added to lard for cooking roast potatoes, Bees gather the pollen for honey, yeah all good.

You've missed my point re the environment.

I find Olive oil much better for cooking anyway.

I avoid as much oil as I can these days. Alarming when you stick a teaspoon of oil in MyFitnessPal how bad it is.

Yeah, I eat very, very little of it & that's always been the case. Maybe a stir fry once every couple of weeks.

I cook with walnut oil. Gives a lovely slightly nutty taste and is good for the brain.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Olive oil has a low smoke rate, the smoke is toxic, not a great oil for cooking, sorry if I missed your point.

Barely touched a potato in months. But I've also lost over 5 inches on my waistline now and am wondering how I was in denial about how out of shape I got.

It's my favourite, love the colour and the taste.

Keep saying it but rapeseed oil with balsamic and fresh ginger is the best dip for fresh bread.

My neighbour sent us pics of a cupboard full of bog roll and bleach and told us she was buying a chest freezer to stockpile more. This all just causes more problems for the more vulnerable in society and is just simply selfish!

Over here the shops now have social distancing tape at check outs to keep customers 6 feet apart and Tesco have signs up saying they will enforce quotas in the stores discretion.

The supermarkets have also introduced special shopping hours for OAPs/vulnerable sections of society as has our Postal service.

Does bog roll last longer in a chest freezer?

Asking for a friend.

I'm waiting for the Government to announce that, in view of the number of electricity supply workers who have had to self-isolate, there will be twelve hour powers cuts every day. Then listen for the great wail going up from everyone who has bought three extra chest freezers and stuffed them full of perishables.

Mate, I have perishables in my freezer I got months ago as I did a rare big shop online with a voucher.

If they dare ruin my Linda McCartney stash I'll fight this virus one-on-one with my fists.

You're using the wrong olive oil then - virgin/extra virgin is *not* good, only the ordinary stuff should be used for frying.

There is no other hot oil I can eat without catastrophic results anyway (allergies).

Edit: & I'm a reasonable cook, so none of my pans has smoked in the last 20 years!

Had been thinking same, which would literally leave me in sh1t - water supply depends on 2 electric pumps from well + filtration system.

I am almost in the same boat, water gets fed half a mile across grazing land from a wee unmaintained reservoir and then through a filter and UV light in my house. If the power went I would have to get the (now very old and smokey) Rayburn going full pelt and boil any water used for drinking, cooking and washing on that.

If I were you I'd be quite, er, 'relieved' that the wee wasn't being maintained ... ;)
