Until today I've been quite jokey about people stockpiling food and supplies.
If you're trying to make sanitizer with vodka which is too weak to work then sorry, you're an idiot, you read another idiot online, your problem.
But today I saw someone take literally all of the baby formula from our shelves (absolutely loads) and when a young mother holding her baby asked if she could.maybe have one or two the other told.her no.
We cant behave like this. I'm not saying we should go to a system of rationing but if people keep on with this behaviour we will have riots.
Very soon.

How grim can we be. Don’t do this.

Would washable cloth nappies be a viable alternative right now? I know someone Colchester way who sells them?

Dunno why I felt the need to clarify they can be washed. I imagine that’s a basic built in requirement.

We may need to look at in the future but it's by no means desperate atm but thank you anyway, i'll bear it in mind if needs be.

Haha, it would help if washable!

Get yourself a bread maker off Amazon.

SB

I've just bought myself a replacement fermenting bin and now have 40 pints of beer brewing.

This one (given by my brother as a present last year):

I also have a breadmaker and had fortunately got a couple of bags of flour in before things went stupid.

Just a hunch, perhaps they're buying in bulk to re-sell on for a huge mark up? In times like these, it certainly creates opportunists, although I'm not saying it's right.

Popped into my local Co-op this evening, and there were toilet rolls on the shelves (not many though) and a good range of pasta, tinned food and most other products.

I think we are now getting to the stage where supply has started to catch up with the stockpilers. Soon the shelves will be back to normal and people will be wondering what all the fuss was about.

Hopefully there will be people with garages full of stuff that they couldn't really afford and that they don't know what to do with. Maybe they will learn a lesson about greed.

If, in a few weeks time when things are back to normal, we spot someone with a garage load of toilet rolls and pasta that they do not know what to do with, then we can do them a favour and escort them and their hoard to the local food bank.

There will be formal rationing if this continues much longer. The books and stuff are already printed. Has always been held in readiness since it ended in 1954 - in case of a war, for example.

Pineapple is so passe, so 2018, dear boy. It's kombucha or bust now.

I've looked up kombucha on Wikipedia now, and also on the Urban Dictionary so will go in search of a kombuchcooch as soon as the lockdown finishes.

What I want sanitizer for is, as always, antibacterial measure after "picking up" whilst out walking my dog - nothing to do with Covid-19 at all.

It works if there is more than 60% alcohol in the solution.

It's not as good as soap but it still breaks down the fatty wall of the virus meaning it loses it's cohesion.

Trouble is buddy they've now hit the food as well.

I popped to Morrisons this evening and even the meat counters were virtually empty.

Though there were some pieces left strangely, like a couple of decent beef joints and some neck of lamb, which I picked up.

Opposite, the other side of that part of the store as it were, were some fresh figs, pretty much untouched.

It turns out the heathens don't know what they're doing at all.

Depends what people are buying. Pasta, rice, cereals, tins etc can all be eaten or even better, donated to a food bank once all this is over.

Over here in Ireland, specifically Wicklow the stores have been hammered for over a week now. Pretty much empty shelves from panic buying early to late last week. Usual no pasta, toilet rolls etc but equally other food stuffs you can live on easily.

Spin on to last Thursday when we closed the schools, restricted public mass gatherings and the shops were wiped clean. Even my better half started to panic...

Today everything is back in stock, some shelves sparse ( cold meat) but nowhere near like last week. My speech at home around let people panic.. "no one can afford to spend €600 each day in groceries"has been vindicated. Supply lines are enabling restocking every 2-4 days.

Good idea.

I would imagine though that in all honesty they probably wouldn,t consider that.

I now carry with me a maybe bag, maybe i will find something to buy, maybe i wont. I believe they were the "thing" to carry around in the DDR.
This evening, i found two tins of mushy peas, three tins of dog food and a packet of sliced salmon, oh, and a 4 pack of toilet rolls. Happy days.
Hopefully, that will put me in the play off places in the bog roll table.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

My neighbour sent us pics of a cupboard full of bog roll and bleach and told us she was buying a chest freezer to stockpile more. This all just causes more problems for the more vulnerable in society and is just simply selfish!

Over here the shops now have social distancing tape at check outs to keep customers 6 feet apart and Tesco have signs up saying they will enforce quotas in the stores discretion.

The supermarkets have also introduced special shopping hours for OAPs/vulnerable sections of society as has our Postal service.

Not a chance... the Suma lorry delivered 90 more yesterday....although they might not all be for me. The original 45 (now 43) are staying though!
Beautiful day for working outside again today good sir...finally was able to cut grass on heavy clay....first of many to come all being well.

Thing is, although naturally people realise (I think!) that more stock will arrive, the concern will be whether they can access it.

If they're isolated at home with no deliveries available for weeks, then what?

I'm hearing tonight a young manager in a local Co-op smugly announcing that customers will only be allowed 2 of any item from tomorrow.

Well that's a bit bloody late.

That horse has not only bolted, but has started a whole new life and family of its own luv, and has its barn packed to the rafters already.

I said to her that there's no flour on the shelf and her immediate reply was, "Well you're only allowed two".

I had to then repeat my first sentence.
