Just getting some shopping and there are plenty of folks wearing masks, is was of the understanding they don’t do a sh#t of good??

They will reduce the chances of infection (outbound as well as in). While the virus might be smaller than the holes in the mask, it's not that much smaller and has no deliberate steering mechanism to make sure it gets through. |  |

Depends on the mask.
N95 (respirators) reduce the chance of receiving a bit (not known exactly apparently.) and of infecting others by quite a lot ... seems to be the accepted knowledge. | | | |

I was on a conference call with Hong Kong colleagues this morning who were showing the stats that the four countries that ask for all individuals to wear masks have seen a drop off in infection rates (Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and Singapore I think off the top of my head).
They said whilst the masks don't protect you from catching it, if everyone wears them then it reduces the spread of it from those without obvious symptoms.
So not really possible perhaps with 66m Brits needing masks but the theory is if we all wore them they would be effective. |  | | |
